Inspiring Conversations with Whitney Carroll of The Balayage Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Carroll.

Hi Whitney, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I went to beauty school in 2016 in Corvallis, Oregon. Immediately upon graduating I started leasing a station at a well known salem salon. I quickly became drawn to doing balayages and learning everything there was. For the first five years of my career I moved around more then I wanted to, Finally I decided I needed a space of my own. I was able to bring in my own target market really well, and I built my own website so I was confident in my abilities.. During this I also started pursuing my bachelors for marketing, which I completed in 2025. Since then I have seen my marketing efforts take off. Today I have my Balayage studio that is hiring for renters and has an open enrollment for a rental mentorship dual program,

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not smooth. Building clientele is an ongoing process. Currently trying to find renters who want long term commitments has been a challenge. As well as keeping up with how quickly things are evolving.

As you know, we’re big fans of The Balayage Studio. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I specialize in Balayage, or hair painting, and even more specifically sun-kissed and natural looks and balayages brunettes. I’m definitely known for blended balayages and brunettes. I’m most proud of how my marketing efforts drive in the guests that I want.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
To be patient, and try to problem solve. It’s often not about you, so take so take deep breaths and you don’t have to don’t respond immediately. Personal relationships are more important then quick profits as a customers lifetime value, or how much they might invest in their lifetime, is what matters the most.
