Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittani Casto.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I feel like photography has always been part of who I am. I was always the friend taking the photos, even before I knew anything about cameras. As a kid, I was out in the country taking pictures of everything—bugs, rocks, the river, animals, trees… literally anything I could find.
I remember going on hunting trips with my grandpa and uncle and bringing my grandma’s camera with me just to document everything. One day I took a photo of a ladybug in a field of blueberries, and my family would not stop talking about it. For years they kept bringing up how good that photo was, and I think that stuck with me more than I realized.
As I got older and moved closer to town, my subjects kind of shifted from nature to people—friends, everyday moments, and of course all the chaotic Instagram filters and editing phases we all went through.
Around 2018, my dad bought a really nice Canon camera, and we’d bring it camping. I borrowed it a few times… and then I just never gave it back. That camera honestly became the foundation of everything. I learned on it, built my skills on it, and grew my business with it.
What’s crazy is that I was able to step into full-time photography immediately after leaving my job, which felt like such a leap of faith at the time. Now I get to travel, meet so many incredible people, spend more time with my family, and build a better life doing something I’ve loved in some form my entire life.
And yes… I did eventually give my dad his camera back.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. For a long time, I was working full-time in veterinary medicine, which I truly loved. That job filled a huge part of my heart—I got to be around animals every day and connect with people in really meaningful moments.
But at the same time, I was pouring everything I had into that, into photography, and into being a mom and a wife. I was overfilling my cup to the point of burnout. I felt stretched really thin, like I was constantly trying to give 100% to everything and not fully showing up as myself anywhere.
That’s when I realized something needed to change. I wanted a life where I could still be creative, still connect with people, but also have the time and space to be present with my family and feel like me again.
Taking the leap into photography full-time was honestly scary, but it was also what brought me back to myself. It gave me the balance I was missing and allowed me to build a life that feels more aligned with who I am—not just as a photographer, but as a mom and a wife too.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in capturing lighthearted, fun moments—families, couples, and a lot of western-style sessions, which I absolutely love. But honestly, I enjoy all styles. I’m really drawn to deeper tones and storytelling, especially when I get to photograph people on their own property with their families and animals. There’s just something so special about capturing people in their element and really showing their lifestyle and what they’re passionate about.
I especially love photographing families with kids because I fully turn into a kid with them—it’s chaotic, it’s fun, and those are usually the moments that end up meaning the most.
I think what I’m most proud of is how confident I’ve become in myself as a photographer. I’ve grown so much, not just in my work but in trusting what I bring to the table. I’m also almost fully booked for the rest of 2026 and already booking weddings for next summer, which still feels surreal.
But overall, I’m most proud of building a full-time business that allows me to support my family while doing something I genuinely love. I built this from the ground up during a really busy season of life, and that means everything to me.
What sets me apart is my ability to connect with people. Because of my background and just who I am, I’m really intentional about making people feel comfortable, seen, and not judged. Especially for moms—I know what it feels like to be on the other side of the camera, and I want them to be able to relax, be present, and actually enjoy the experience.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I think the most important lesson I’ve learned is that I’m worthy—of success, of being seen, and of building a life that actually feels good to me. My husband helped my confidence grow as well.
For a long time, I worked in a job where I felt really underappreciated, and it made me question myself more than I should have. But through this journey, I’ve realized that I bring a lot to the table. I’m outgoing, I’m a go-getter, and I genuinely care about people—and that matters.
Stepping into photography full-time forced me to believe in myself in a whole new way. No one else was going to do it for me.
I stopped waiting for permission and started choosing myself.
And once I did that, everything changed—not just in my business, but in who I am
