Check Out Kody Nelson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kody Nelson.

Hi Kody, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
McCauleys Truck Center was started by the old owner John McCauley back in the early 90s, as of April of 2023 my wife and I purchased the business and have continued on the McCauleys legacy. We have grown the shop to 5 employees, moved to a new location located right off hwy 97 outside of bend. We are continuing to provide service to our wonderful central Oregon customers. We work on Heavy truck and trailer, light and medium duty diesel as well. we also offer mobile service around the greater Central Oregon Area. We look forward to serving our amazing customers for many more years to come.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to purchase a business was a difficult one, we did not come from money, we had no large investors, we sold our primary home just to come up with the down payment for the SBA loan. Dealing with the SBA was also no easy task, it took almost a year of back and forth before we actually closed on the business.

After the transition of ownership, things hit the ground running but there has been many obstacles along the way, from dealing with county to moving out to our new location, dealing with the rising costs of parts from our vendors, and the lack of work force there is for skilled trades.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
McCauleys is a Heavy, Medium, Light duty diesel repair shop, that offers in shop and mobile services to Central Oregon. We have an absolute amazing crew that can handle just about any job you throw at us.

What sets us apart here at MTC is I truly treat all my employees like they are family, I care about them and their goals just as much as mine, I have worked for employers in the past that I was treated as just a “number” and its been my goal from day one to never be that way towards my team.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
There are a few people I’d like to thank on this entrepreneurship journey I have been on. For one my Mom and Dad, they have always been my biggest supporters and pushed me to chase my dreams. They taught me at a young age that if I want something in life I am going to have to work for it and that was the best lesson they could have taught me.

I’d like to thank my wife for always believing in me. She is my high school sweetheart, we have been together since 2013. When I proposed the idea of buying this business she was right in the middle of wedding planning for our wedding, and she didn’t skip a beat and said “if it’s something you want to do lets do it!”

I’d also like to thank John McCauley the gentleman we purchased the business from, he has become a great mentor to me over that past few years and has done so much for my wife and I so that we are successful taking over his legacy.
