Exploring Life & Business with Kristal Nehf of Rogue Roots Solutions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristal Nehf.

Hi Kristal , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2024, as my role began to transition, I found myself at a crossroads. I felt a strong push to do what I had intuitively been doing for the last 20 years, but on a broader scale, supporting multiple people at an executive level. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial mindset and I’m not afraid to try something and see if it works. That mindset worked in my favor when I took the leap and started Rogue Roots Solutions. I wanted to serve people on a larger scale while also being present for my grown children and grandchildren. I’ve always had a passion for being an “undergirder”, the person who strengthens the foundation so others can succeed. I have a detailed mind and deeply appreciate big-picture thinkers, which creates a natural balance in the work I do. Since launching my business, it has grown successfully because people are looking for someone they can trust. Today, I continue to build Rogue Roots Solutions by partnering with individuals who value strong support and sustainable success.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a relatively smooth road overall, but not without its challenges. I’ve found that working with my clients rather than against their natural flow has been a key part of that. I don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach, and that flexibility has worked in my favor. That said, building a business always comes with a learning curve. Each client brings a different communication style and set of needs, and adapting to that quickly is essential. Staying current in a fast-paced, ever-changing tech landscape has also been a challenge, along with learning to balance my work and personal life in a new way. One of the biggest growth areas has been trusting my instincts and confidently owning the value I bring. As much as I naturally want to streamline and optimize, I’ve learned that true support means meeting people where they are, not forcing a system that doesn’t fit. One of the biggest challenges early on was learning to confidently price my value. There were moments where I had to step back and take an honest look at what I was truly offering. I realized I wasn’t just providing hourly administrative support, I was bringing strategy, partnership, insight, reliability, and a level of care and integrity that genuinely impacts my clients’ businesses. That shift in perspective didn’t come easily. Like many people, it can feel uncomfortable to fully acknowledge your strengths without worrying about sounding arrogant. But I had to reframe that mindset and evaluate myself as if I were the one hiring. That meant looking at both my strengths and areas for growth from a practical, business standpoint.Through that process, I was able to establish pricing that felt both fair and aligned with the value I bring. I’ve also learned to embrace the fact that I don’t need to be everything to everyone. If something falls outside of my strengths, I have a strong network of fellow business owners I trust and refer to. That approach has allowed me to better serve my clients and ensure they’re supported in every way they need.I genuinely enjoy that process, though. I like a challenge, and each one has made the journey not just successful, but really rewarding.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Rogue Roots Solutions is built on the belief that strong businesses need strong support behind the scenes. I partner with business owners to streamline operations, strengthen systems, and provide high-level executive support so they can focus on growth.

What sets me apart is that this isn’t just a job to me, it’s personal. I’ve always felt called to be the support system. Whether in my early roles, managing teams, or raising a family, I’ve learned that strength doesn’t always stand in the spotlight. Often, it’s found in the quiet steadiness behind the scenes. That’s where I thrive, and where I help my clients thrive as well. When I step into a client’s business, I’m fully in it with them, I care deeply about their success.

Throughout my career, I’ve become known for my ability to step into roles with little to no training and quickly create structure, systems, and clarity. Time and time again, I’ve been trusted to “figure it out” and that has become one of my greatest strengths. Now, through Rogue Roots Solutions, I get to bring that same problem-solving mindset to each client. Every business is different, and I genuinely enjoy working alongside them to solve the puzzle of what will help them operate at their best.

I implement what I call The Rogue Roots Method, a simple but effective three-step approach:

Identify operational bottlenecks
Strengthen systems through workflows, communication, and SOPs
Provide ongoing support to ensure the business runs smoothly and sustainably

What I’m most proud of, brand-wise, is the level of trust I’ve built. My clients know they have someone reliable, adaptable, and fully invested in their success. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions, I meet people where they are and build from there.

At the end of the day, I want people to know that working with Rogue Roots Solutions means gaining more than support, you gain a partner who brings structure, insight, and integrity to your business.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was introspective, curious, and very independent. I did well in school and genuinely enjoyed the work. I’ve always been someone who finds satisfaction in completing tasks and seeing things through. I also had a strong creative side. I loved things like scrapbooking and making projects, and even at a young age I found ways to turn that creativity into something more entrepreneurial. I would create things and sell them to neighbors or family friends. That entrepreneurial spirit has really been a part of me from the beginning. I valued my friendships, but I was also very comfortable being on my own. I think that balance helped shape my ability to both collaborate and think independently. I also loved being part of a team, especially through sports like volleyball, where I enjoyed the shared energy and sense of accomplishment that comes from working toward a common goal.
