Conversations with Esther Rohr

Today we’d like to introduce you to Esther Rohr.

Hi Esther, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I picked up my mom’s Kodak point and shoot when I was just a little kid. My obsession for taking photos only grew as I got older. As a young teen I would take photos at friends weddings for $150 or take candids at birthday parties. I officially started my wedding business in 2018 and have been shooting weddings and elopements in and around Oregon ever since. In the first few years I attended a ton of business workshops, photography styled shoots, and consumed more educational courses than I can count. Many wedding vendors came alongside me to support me and show me the ropes, I am so grateful to them!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It is hard building your own business, ask anyone who’s done it. Most of the time in the beginning you don’t have any proof that it’s going to work, you just keep trying. As someone without a business background or a college degree I definitely doubted myself more than I believed in myself. Not because I couldn’t make great photographs, but because running a photography business is a lot more than just taking great photos. Much of the advertising and business side of things was/is so difficult to learn from scratch. (Thank god for YouTube tutorials)

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a photographer who primarily shoots weddings and elopements. I specialize in carefree imagery for those lighthearted romantic types. I hate boring and stock looking photos. My couples book me because they see something effortless about my work and they want that.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Visiting my best friend who lived 3 hours away, riding her horses bareback through the orchard next to her house and galloping them up and down the rows all afternoon.
