Conversations with Lindsay Boslar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Boslar.

Hi Lindsay, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I went to my first Jazzercise class with a best friend in 2016, and after class I was hooked! After a year of classes I decided to become an instructor. Jazzercise became my happy place and I wanted to do more of what I love. Jazzercise has helped me, especially with my Crohn’s disease. After sweatin’ it out and moving, I would always feel better. After my resection surgery in 2020, Jazzercise helped me get moving again. I want to inspire others who may have an autoimmune disease to never give up and to keep moving.

I moved to Astoria Oregon in the summer of 2022 with my husband Travis and son Turner. I had already been teaching Jazzercise in Portland Oregon for 6 years at that time. I love Jazzercise, it’s the only workout I’ve stuck with for 10 years. It’s an amazing workout that combines dance cardio with strength training, all set to current music! I knew there wasn’t a Jazzercise on the Oregon Coast, and my dream was to bring the workout that I love to the community here in Astoria. I started Jazzercise in September of 2022, and it has been one of the best decisions of my life. The Jazzercise Astoria Oregon community is incredible and so welcoming.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest challenge was bringing my dream of starting a Jazzercise business to life. Luckily as a franchisee of Jazzercise, they provided information and help along the way. I also only know the instructor side of Jazzercise, and I’ve never been an owner or started a business before. I also am a teacher here in Astoria, so my background and experience is in teaching, not running a business. Starting a Jazzercise business from scratch here in Astoria was a big ostacle, but also an exciting one. I needed to find a location, instructors, start my social media, advertising and getting the word out. All while starting my new teaching job at a new school with a new grade level. Once I found a location and another instructor, I was thrilled and we had our grand opening in September of 2022. Many friends and members of Jazzercise Portland Oregon came down for the opening, and it just shows how supportive the Jazzercise community is.

Growing my Jazzercise business will always come with challenges. I now have two instructors that I helped to train and certify.
They are incredible and I am so proud of their hard work. I am looking forward to adding classes to our schedule, so we can have more class times to offer. I’m looking forward to moving into our new space on July 1st. Jazzercise Astoria will be relocating to Suomi Hall which is in the Uniontown Historic District at the west end of Astoria, Oregon, just beneath the Astoria-Megler Bridge.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a 4th grade teacher here in Astoria Oregon at Lewis and Clark Elementary. I have been teaching for 22 years. I absolutely love being an educator, and the Astoria School District has been so welcoming and supportive.

How do you think about happiness?
Seeing my members in class getting stronger brings me so much joy. Hearing their success stories and how much their health has improved from starting Jazzercise is so incredible. The community we’ve built is so welcoming and supportive. Our Jazzercise Astoria community will always welcome you with a smile and really feels like a family. When I’m not at Jazzercise or teaching 4th grade, you’ll find me on the river with my family and my two black labs.
