Exploring Life & Business with Jashiel Espiritu of Gresham Automotive Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jashiel Espiritu.

Hi Jashiel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Started in Automotive Industry as a part-time job in September of 2000 until I got to my real job. I learned parts and then quickly started to learn how to help customers repair there vehicles and keep them maintained. I gravitated towards many online training programs as early has 2005 and then went in 2011 started going to in-person training seminars 5-12 times a year. I moved up in the parts industry to Customer Account Manager visited shop owners and managers from Welches to St. Helens from Woodburn to Ridgefield.

One of our customers knew that we wanted to open our own business and when he moved to a bigger location he told us to jump into his old shop. We opened 05/31/2021 it was Memorial Day, my brother Gabriel and a friend named Juan. We have had so much help from other shop owners along the way. Was invited to be a Technet Ambassador in 2023 which helped us learn to grow.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Struggle #1 Juan are main tech died September 2022. We were not sure what this meant for us initially. But once we survived the winter months ( Slow season ). We started hiring and continue to grow.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a family owned business that does maintenance of vehicles and general repairs. We do inspections than list what is important and what can wait. We report to CarFax to protect our customers investments. We offer a 24 month/24,000 mile warranty. We work with 4 different finance companies for those unexpected repairs. We spend the time to talk to the warranty companies aka Carshield/Endurance/Protective to help get your repairs approved.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Put yourself in the room with people that are working on their business. There is plenty of Conferences in all kinds of business. We hired a coaching company to tell us the hard things.
