Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Burton.
Hi Mark, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
The very first sale 4 Seasons Estate Sales ever did was in the fall of 2022, way out in Stanfield, Oregon. Considering we were based in Salem, Oregon, it was quite the drive—and quite the gamble.
The sale took place on an old farm that had been in the same family for 120 years. From start to finish, it took us eight weekends to set up and run the sale. Every trip meant packing up, driving across the state, and doing the best we could with what little experience we had.
People came from all over Eastern Oregon and even Washington. We honestly had no idea what we were doing. There was no system, no proven process—just hard work, long days, and a lot of learning on the fly.
Somehow, it all came together. When the sale was over, we had netted more than $12,000. That first sale didn’t just surprise us—it proved to us that this could work.
Since then, 4 Seasons Estate Sales has grown to include a warehouse location (1285 Madison St. NE) and over 10 employees.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Lot’s of learning on the fly. Not at all a smooth road trying to balance all the aspects of running a business and keeping employees happy (as well as personal life) at the same time.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Dwayne (Business Partner) and I both come from a strong relational background with Dwayne more Sales, and myself more Customer Service with a Ministry background as well. We really like to emphasize that we’re the “Easy Button” with all things Estate Sales and Downsizing.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Sometimes, being too nice doesn’t work well business-wise
