Today we’d like to introduce you to Becka Bonner.
Hi Becka, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Becka Makes Buttons was born out of a lifelong love of creativity, community, and helping people bring their ideas to life in a tangible way. What started as making custom buttons grew into something much bigger, a creative business centered around connection, self-expression, and accessibility.
Over the years, I’ve built Becka Makes Buttons into a business that creates custom pin-back buttons, merch, and interactive creative experiences for bands, businesses, nonprofits, schools, events, and individuals. I specialize in helping people turn their artwork, messages, and identities into wearable pieces that spark conversation and community.
But the heart of the business has always been about more than buttons. Through my work, I discovered how powerful creativity can be as a tool for healing, confidence, and belonging. That realization led me to become deeply involved in community-building work through my nonprofit, Radness Ensues, where we provide free art access, mentorship, and youth internship opportunities for kids, teens, and creatives in our community.
Today, Becka Makes Buttons continues to grow beyond production work into a creative hub and experience-driven brand. I’m currently expanding into a physical storefront called The Button Shoppe in Silverton, Oregon, where people will be able to create buttons, participate in workshops, host parties, and engage with art in an approachable and inclusive environment.
I’m also an author, musician, public speaker, and community organizer, so much of my work overlaps in meaningful ways. Whether I’m creating products, organizing events, writing books, mentoring youth, or building spaces for connection, the common thread is helping people feel seen, empowered, and inspired to create something meaningful of their own.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
While building my business, I’ve navigated sobriety, 2 divorces, and ongoing mental health obstacles. I’m also AuDHD, so my executive function isn’t always the greatest. I really believe that we are our greatest obstacle because life can be really hard for a variety of reasons. I’ve been in business for over 15 years now, and there never seems to be an easy way to obtain work/life balance. I have a lot of PTSD I navigate as well, so that in itself has been really difficult. I feel really grateful for an amazing community that really believes in the work I do and helps to keep me on track. I’d be lost without them.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Becka Makes Buttons LLC?
Becka Makes Buttons LLC is a creative business built around self-expression, community connection, and accessible art experiences. We specialize in custom pin-back buttons and button-based products for bands, businesses, nonprofits, schools, artists, events, and individuals looking to create something meaningful and memorable.
What sets Becka Makes Buttons apart is that we focus on both production and experience. In addition to creating high-quality custom buttons, we also offer interactive button-making events, workshops, parties, and community-centered creative programming that encourages people to engage with art in a hands-on way. Our work is rooted in inclusivity, authenticity, and helping people feel seen through creativity.
Over time, the brand has evolved into something much bigger than just buttons. Through Becka Makes Buttons, I’ve been able to collaborate with musicians, local businesses, Pride events, youth organizations, schools, and nonprofits throughout Oregon and beyond. I’m especially passionate about using creativity as a tool for connection, confidence-building, and healing.
One of the things I’m most proud of is building a business that naturally bridges entrepreneurship and community impact. My work through Becka Makes Buttons also helped inspire and support the creation of Radness Ensues, a nonprofit community space that provides free art access, mentorship, and youth internship opportunities.
Currently, I’m expanding into a second physical creative storefront called The Button Shoppe in Silverton, Oregon. The vision is to create a welcoming, colorful space where people of all ages can gather, create, learn, and express themselves through art and button-making.
At its core, Becka Makes Buttons is about helping people turn ideas, identities, passions, and stories into something tangible. My goal is to inspire others to go out into the world and create their own magic.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Learning how to make buttons at the Boys and Girls club when I was 8 years old, and living in that art room in their location on Summer Street in Salem, OR.
