Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Von Gaertner.
Hi Adam, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started GaertnerPC after a family member had an expensive bill for a simple repair. I had previously worked in the corporate world and was determined to find a more enjoyable profession than working for a soulless corporation. After seeing the lack of quality service options in the town my family lived in, I decided to move there and open a business to provide a quality affordable service doing something I truly enjoy. Helping people is a passion of mine, I often help people for free just because I enjoy the hobby and getting people on track and back to what they love fills me with a sense of joy I find hard to express. Technology has always been a passion of mine as well. Growing up in Beaverton Oregon I was exposed to the latest technology from intel through my school and my mom’s job working for Tektronix building test and measurement equipment for them. I learned a lot in my younger years about the fundamentals that make computers work. That base understanding of computers has allowed me to understand seemingly complex problems with relative ease.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building a business is difficult. When I first started GaertnerPC I had a side job cleaning carpets just to afford the rent on my office. Every day I would come home and work on my website, fine tuning the message I wanted to deliver, researching my competition and making sure I was present everywhere they were. Getting advice on how to run a business was also very difficult. Often the advice I was given involved having money to start with to create visibility, Unfortunately when I was starting my business money was in short supply, so a fancy main street office with good signage wasn’t in the budget. So instead I taught myself how to grow and manage my business. For me it came down to impressing every customer with quality service at an affordable price. This translated into many referrals that snowballed into what I have today.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about GaertnerPC?
My business has worked with thousands of individuals and local businesses.. I employ the latest technology using custom designed methods for deployment that can scale efficiently to move businesses from outdated, highly complicated infrastructure into easy to manage and highly secured scalable infrastructure quickly and without lost time. For individuals with basic to complicated personal PC issues, i take great pride and joy in helping them get back on their feet. I love problem solving and fixing issues is more like a fun daily adventure for me. I am able to get 90% of issues solved in one day which is something I believe separates me from some of my competitors.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I have taken risks. Reaching out to large companies to sell my expertise is a scary thing to do. While I always had confidence in my approach and methodology, I often would find myself second guessing my approach, thinking, “will they like me, will they trust me?” Over time this goes away as I saw the delighted faces of my clients and saw their technology improving the quality of life they experienced. Getting calls from other local businesses requesting me by name really made the first steps of reaching out when I was unsure about myself pay off.
