Exploring Life & Business with Kendra Brott of Kendra Brott, LPC, LCC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendra Brott.

Hi Kendra, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Throughout school, I felt the need to help people overcome mental health stigma. My household and family tree have plenty, if not heavy, mental health diagnoses. I learned that trauma is really the basis of most mental health disorders. The knowledge that bodies keep the score of your trauma….was the momentum that kept fueling my journey. I started with schools as a teacher, then a school counselor, as I felt most individuals were not identified or validated due to a lack of resources. I could help the most people if I worked in schools, was my logic. Insurance and access to services are the main barriers to individuals obtaining services. While trying to mine services for a youth, I stumbled upon a licensed professional counselor who tried to recruit me toward private practice. I laughed and said that it didn’t pay enough…and she responded that things had changed as she’d been a school counselor as well. I started the process of obtaining my hours by connecting with the same private practice she was with. Heads up, school counselors: log those hours with a mental health supervisor while in schools!

COVID made me feel like I couldn’t keep students safe mentally. The case numbers that school counselors are in charge of are way above what is recommended by national standards. There was a time when I had over 500 students on my caseload, and I was responsible for their graduation requirements, career/college aspirations, and mental health. Please be kind to your school counselors! I could always come back to school counseling and or teaching, so I decided to leap into private practice counseling.

I knew very few people who had gone this path, so it was a surprise for at least me that I was more than qualified. With schools, I had seen everything…including a SWAT raid, weapons being brought to schools, suicide clusters, and all of the diagnoses. Private practice was such a breath of fresh air! Seeing 24-32 people per week, versus the first hour of the day, was almost too slow. Being able to get the whole story vs snippets…and help them find peace….felt so very good. Within six months, I had a client ask me if I was trained in ART, and I responded well yes…thinking paintbrushes and Art Therapy, but no, it was Accelerated Resolution Therapy instead. The client didn’t want to TALK about the trauma as it triggered her further, and this is why talk therapy was not her friend. I dove deep…and it was way up my alley but not offered locally. Long story made short: over the next three years, I went up the ladder of training to eventually become a trainer of Accelerated Resolution Therapy as Oregon didn’t have this training readily available. I had seen results the first time I used it, and made crazy progress with clients that had been in therapy for years and were now graduating therapy. The possibilities for first responders, students, teachers, veterans, and assault victims within 1-3 sessions. Usually, just one session and freedom from the sensations of trauma.

Let’s just say I’m passionate about alleviating trauma! Especially without having to TALK about the trauma, in as little as an hour. Most traumas can be alleviated in 1-3 sessions on average. While born from EMDR there are way more differences then similarities (bimodal movement).

*Accelerated Resolution Therapy is FANTASTIC for trauma and/or all things PTSD.

*Each trauma averages between 1 and 3 therapeutic sessions, and the BEST part is that YOU DON’T HAVE TO TALK ABOUT IT!

*Confidential populations (medical, police, counselors, etc.) can offload their trauma instead of keeping it bottled up.

*First responders, military, abuse victims, and childhood trauma can be addressed using this therapy. ANY trauma can be addressed… no matter how “small” or large.

*Trainer, Master, Enhanced, and Basic certified, and has over 1000 sessions with quantifiable positive results in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART).

*Laney Rozenweig is the founder, and her TEDx video is here explaining what it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vP7dx03arxIK

My bio: Kendra Brott is an art teacher for all ages and has spent 20 years in school systems. She was most recently at Betts Psychiatric for three years and at Sheldon High School as a school counselor for 12 years. First responders, police officers, and veterans are near and dear to her heart. Kendra strives to understand each client as a whole, a unique person composed of many parts. She often employs strength-based therapy techniques and pays special attention to her clients’ values, beliefs, and attitudes towards health and wellness.

Kendra holds a master’s degree in counseling (both school and private focus) from Oregon State University and a master’s degree in teaching with a K-12 art focus from Willamette University. NAMI (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill) training and participation. With over 20 years in public schools, there is not much she has not been exposed to. She is a QPR (Question, Persuade, Respond) Trainer of Trainers for suicide prevention and awareness.

Kendra grew up as a military brat and has a deep personal understanding of PTSD, bipolar disorder, autism, and schizophrenia. CourageousSurvival.org resource and advocate. On the East Coast and in large parts of California, therapy is completely normal. A huge fan of helping educate society on how to handle their emotions healthily, starting at a young age.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Time, hours accumulation, the mental health world is full of misconceptions.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Trauma, trauma…it has to be treated specifically before healing can really begin. Acceleration Resolution Therapy is really new to Oregon. There are fewer than 40 trained practitioners in ART in Oregon, and now three trainers to help train mental health professionals (new in April and May 2026).

I can train mental health professionals in Basic ART. Take insurance (most). https://acceleratedresolutiontherapy.com/reg/icat.php?course=Intro

I can treat trauma directly. https://kendra-brott.clientsecure.me/

I can train first responders how to stop panic attacks with the people they’re trying to help with SAF-T. Happy to train organizations (teachers, first responders, anyone dealing with crises).

I enjoy a challenge!

You don’t have to talk about your trauma.

I would love to help give new mental health professionals this training (3 days for Basic) for the extra boost into the field.

Would love for clinics to host sessions so we can get this training and knowledge out to our community!

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I really wish I had trauma training coming out of the gate. When sensations and activations are HIGH, the body freezes ( or fights, flights, fawns) and communication is hampered if not disabled.

Pricing:

  • Insurance + copay
  • $220 per session if cash pay
  • $1700 for Training of Basic ART (non profit pricing available)
