Community Highlights: Meet Matthew Leerssen of Rimrock Transport, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Leerssen.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Our story starts with our daughter working at a local car dealership. A few years back, she mentioned that their car transporter was contemplating retirement. This planted a seed and made us wonder if we could start a car transporting business. Matthew was a semi-truck driver with over 20 years’ experience which gave him the qualifications necessary for this business. He also had a strong customer service background. We made the decision to meet with the car transporter and after much prayer and research, we decided to purchase his used equipment and start Rimrock Transport, LLC. We started with a local car dealership where our daughter was employed, and the first year of business was somewhat slow and challenging. This year has proven to be busier with at least two dedicated car dealerships and multiple private clients. Matthew’s gift in customer service has given us an advantage over other transporters. He takes pride in keeping customers informed throughout the transport process and has built a reputation for dependable, on-time deliveries. He also has the ability to maneuver our large truck and trailer into tight and complicated spaces safely. We are very happy with our decision to move forward with this business and find it challenging and rewarding at the same time.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
To launch our business, we purchased a truck with higher mileage, which served us well throughout much of our first year of operations. However, after experiencing a few mechanical issues that resulted in unexpected downtime and the loss of a few valuable transport opportunities, it became clear that replacement would be necessary sooner than anticipated. We have since invested in a brand new truck, allowing us to continue serving our customers with greater reliability and confidence in our equipment.

The newest challenge has been the high price of diesel fuel which makes it even more difficult to come up with acceptable bids that can cover our expenses.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Rimrock Transport, LLC?
Rimrock Transport, LLC, is a family-owned and operated business built by a husband and wife team. We have been fortunate to have the support of our two daughters to help build our website and to get our foot in the door with a local car dealership.

Customers deal directly with us without the need of third party vendors, and they can rely on our promise to deliver their vehicle safely and on time. We cover the Pacific Northwest, California, Montana, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, and Colorado, but are willing to cover other areas if financially feasible. Matthew takes great pride in his precheck inspections and years of experience in driving semi-trucks which has allowed him to pass all safety audits and truck scale inspections.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
We do not have any plans to expand at this time, but if the opportunity presented itself, we may consider it. One thing we won’t do is compromise our service or communications with our customers.
