Inspiring Conversations with Darcy Haight of Accurate Bookkeeping Inc.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darcy Haight.

Hi Darcy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Northern Idaho and attended Washington State University where I received a Bachelors of Science in Actuarial Mathematics and a Minor in Business Administration. After marrying my wonderful husband we moved to Bend. I started Accurate Bookkeeping Inc. in 2006. I am very excited to be celebrating 20 years in business. Over the years I have grown my business and now have four employees. I am truly blessed to have such amazing women work for my company. They are intelligent, competent and truly invested in their work.

It has always been very important to me to protect and care for the people in my life. I enjoy supporting local businesses and providing them with accurate information and solid business consulting. I also am blessed to get to work for so many truly amazing people. Their stories and the way they run their businesses showcase their strengths and character. I hold many values of great importance in my life, including honesty, integrity and loyalty and I believe that aligns with what others hold dear and draws them to me, and in turn, I have the great privilege of working with so many talented and truly wonderful clients. I get to work with so many in the community, whether it be CPAs, bankers, or State governmental staff who also care about others.

I enjoy getting to use my expertise to help my clients with whatever they need help with, whether that be insurance audits, business growth consulting, starting a new business, selling one, learning how to interpret financial statements and of course bookkeeping and payroll.
Over the years I have worked on some very interesting projects. I helped a client win a case with the California Workers Compensation company and save thousands of dollars. I worked for a resort in Mexico to teach the bookkeeper Quickbooks and help integrate the new point of sales software and presented to the Board. I also get to support different local non-profits in their missions and assist with their external audits.

I did not set out with the intention of owning an accounting firm, but as the years have gone by I have stayed true to my values and morals and that has allowed me to create the company that I have today. I love my work, but even more so, I love the people that surround me, my employees, clients and community members. It has not always been easy, it is a lot of hard work and sacrifice, but I am truly grateful for it all.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
They say what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger. I believe that to be true. When COVID came along, I had only days to read the federal legislation and educate myself on PPP loans and ERC credits so that I could help my clients. I suddenly found myself with two elementary age children out of school. In order to care for them and help my clients get the federal funding they needed to stay in business, I worked long, exhausting days. I filed reports and amended payroll tax returns to get hundreds of thousands of dollars in federal funding for my clients. As COVID dragged on, I found myself short staffed, so I worked seven days a week for months.

When I face hardships, I think, how can I improve so that it is better moving forward. I hired an HR consultant and used the valuable things she taught me to change the culture of my company and hire an amazing staff that I cherish.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in providing bookkeeping services, payroll services and business consulting. I produce accurate financial statements and help my clients identify and solve problems. I set up streamlined processes for them to maximize efficiency. As a team we provide excellent customer service.

My hard work and dedication, education and accounting background set me apart. Because of my concern for others, it is always a priority to me to maintain good relationships. From the beginning it has been of paramount importance to me to provide meticulous financial statements so that my clients have accurate information and therefore can make the best decisions for their business.

What were you like growing up?
I have always been outgoing and love to laugh and known for being kind and full of love.
I enjoyed riding my horse across the rolling hills of the Palouse, skiing and white water rafting. I have always loved the outdoors and that is why I love living in Bend with my incredible husband and amazing boys.
