Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Maddux.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey is defined by a commitment to service, continuous self-improvement, and building a foundation for my family.
It began with my service in the United States Marine Corps. That experience instilled in me a discipline and a “mission-first” mentality that has remained the bedrock of everything I do. This is most evident in my daily routine; I start my intensive strength training at 3:00 AM each morning. This discipline ensures that I have the focus and energy required to manage my professional responsibilities while remaining fully present for my family.
After transitioning to civilian life, I found my calling in the mortgage industry. I launched Maddux Mortgage in 2021 with the goal of bringing a higher level of expertise and integrity to the lending process. I have always believed that professional growth must go hand-in-hand with academic rigor; currently, I am pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Finance at Oregon State University, balancing my studies with my work. Earlier this year, I expanded my professional scope by obtaining my Oregon Real Estate license and launching Maddux Homes, allowing me to serve clients through a more comprehensive real estate approach.
Today, my life in Happy Valley centers on three pillars: growing my businesses, pursuing my degree, and, most importantly, being a dedicated father to my two sons, Noah and Michael. Whether I am analyzing complex market trends or spending time with my family, my focus is always on delivering precise, high-quality results.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to where I am today has been anything but smooth. The primary challenge has been the constant, deliberate act of balancing high-level professional demands with my commitment to academic growth and, most importantly, fatherhood.
Transitioning from the Marine Corps into the civilian workforce required a significant shift in perspective. Building a company like Maddux Mortgage from the ground up in 2021 presented immediate hurdles, from navigating complex financial regulations to establishing credibility in a competitive industry. Those early days were marked by long hours and the pressure of scaling a business while maintaining the high standards I set for myself.
Simultaneously, re-entering academia at Oregon State University while running two businesses—Maddux Mortgage and the newly launched Maddux Homes—has required a level of rigor that leaves little room for error. The most significant struggle has been time management; my 3:00 AM strength training sessions are not just a preference, they are a necessity. They are the only way I can maintain the physical and mental capacity to meet my professional obligations and fulfill my responsibilities as a father to Noah and Michael.
There have been moments where the weight of these commitments felt overwhelming, particularly when navigating personal or financial challenges that arise unexpectedly. However, I view these obstacles as part of the process. Each struggle has reinforced the discipline I learned in the Corps, teaching me that success is not defined by the absence of challenges, but by the precision and resolve used to overcome them.
Does this perspective on the challenges you’ve faced align with the narrative you want to present in the feature?
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My brand is built on a precision-driven philosophy: I cut through the industry noise to provide elite, transparent service.
Maddux Mortgage is my flagship, founded in 2021 to provide a high-touch, broker-level experience for Oregon families and veterans. Unlike big-box lenders, I offer direct, one-on-one access from our first conversation to the closing table. I specialize in complex loan structures—including VA, FHA, and non-QM—leveraging my industry relationships to find the right path for every client.
With the 2026 launch of Maddux Homes, I have integrated real estate brokerage services, allowing me to provide a comprehensive, end-to-end experience. By combining mortgage expertise with real estate guidance, I eliminate the friction of dealing with multiple parties, providing a seamless, tactical advantage for my clients.
What sets me apart is accountability. I don’t treat clients as transactions; I build lifelong partnerships. Whether you are navigating a competitive purchase in the Portland Metro area or optimizing your home equity, my goal is to provide clear, actionable, and precise financial strategies.
At the end of the day, I am proud to be a local, veteran-owned presence, dedicated to making homeownership secure and straightforward.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck is not a factor I rely on. In my view, relying on luck is a tactical error. My life and business are built on the principle that preparation and discipline create the environment where success becomes inevitable, rather than accidental.
In the Marine Corps, I learned that you don’t hope for a positive outcome—you train until the outcome is a product of your execution. I have carried that exact standard into my business life. Whether it is navigating the volatility of the mortgage market or launching a new venture, I don’t look for lucky breaks. I look for data, market trends, and the best way to structure a solution for my clients.
If I am successful, it is because I started my day at 3:00 AM for an intensive strength training session, dedicated myself to my degree at Oregon State, and spent the hours in between ensuring my clients at Maddux Mortgage and Maddux Homes have a tactical advantage. The “luck” that people sometimes perceive in my success is actually just the compounding result of consistent, intentional, and often difficult decisions made when others chose to stop.
