Conversations with Steve Miller

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve Miller.

Hi Steve, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
About 15 years ago, I decided to make a video game. That had to take a backseat to caring for an elderly parent. As time passed, and more tools became accessible to Indie Game Developers, I decided it was time to rekindle my passion for games, and I founded Chasing Windmills Games. I’ve cycled through a few team members, but as of now we have myself, our Writer from South Africa Redewaan Duckett, and several voice actors, one of who is also a skilled graphic artist. We are currently in the planning and design phase, however we have some screenshots of some of the characters to share.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. We’ve lost some team members who have moved on to other projects. Chasing Windmills Games is entirely self-funded as of now, so money is extremely tight for us. As we plan for our first Kickstarter campaign, we are looking heavily at preparing a vertical slice of the game with all of the mechanics in place.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Chasing Windmills Games was founded on a dream that an ordinary person with no formal training or experience in the field, could make a polished game that delivers a compelling narrative experience.

What were you like growing up?
I was the quiet kid who was always daydreaming. I did alright in school, but didn’t really excell at it. I would either be playing with my friends or in my room playing Nintendo. I’ve always loved video games, I think they are a wonderful way to escape the pressures of daily life for a little while, and pretend you’re a superhero, or a race car driver.
