Today we’d like to introduce you to Maressica Iconi.
Hi Maressica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my journey into massage therapy in 2021 when I made the decision to change my career path. In 2019 I decided to move out on my own and stop going to college. This decision lead me to start working long hours and multiple jobs just to keep myself afloat. I worked in multiple different fields and took the chance to learn new skills whenever I was given the opportunity. After the pandemic struck and put me out of work I had some time to think about what I wanted my life to look like.
Once I was able to return to work, I took just about any job I could get and ended up working through a temporary employment agency. Through my work with the agency I was offered a full time job in a marketing manufacturing company. The company being short on staff meant more long hours and lots of stress. All the same aspects I was hoping to get away from, so when I got offered a position with a chiropractic company, I took it instead.
I had never worked in an office setting before, and was definitely taking a pay cut but everyone was treated like family there. Drama was not tolerated, they held lunch potlucks to celebrate employee birthdays and overall was a very supportive group of individuals. I had worked for this company as a chiropractic assistant for about 6 months before I realized I was going to be forced to get a second job or quit for a position higher in pay. When I brought this up to my manager, boss and business owner, they offered me a chance to start providing massage services to patients. The licensed massage therapists who worked here had become some of my closest friends and had not only offered to train me but vouched for me being a perfect candidate for this kind of promotion. They said I had a natural sense of intuition with people and instinctively knew what needed to be worked on.
Being cared for so much and having a business owner who trusted his employees is what allowed me to start down the path to becoming an LMT. Now, years later and after moving to a completely different town out of chasing opportunity, I have completed massage school becoming a fully licensed massage therapist and starting my own small independent business.
I overcame many obstacles on my journey and have been very fortunate with what I have managed to accomplish.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I started out working multiple jobs having up to 3 at the same time. Almost lost my apartment due to roomate troubles and not making 2.5x the rent per month on my own to qualify independently at first. Struggled through an abusive and manipulative relationship. Moved to an entirely new city, and continued to work full time while completing school on the weekends. Lastly I got laid off from my full time job shortly after completing school due to budget cuts and decided to take a leap of faith into my own business full time.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about 2 Iconic LLC?
2 Iconic Massage and Healing (2 Iconic LLC) is my own small independently owned massage therapy practice. I rent a space located inside of a salon/spa in downtown Roseburg OR. I have been massaging for around 4 years so far and officially started my business January of 2026. Services I offer include swedish relaxation massages, therapeutic massage, trigger point release therapy, myofascial release, lymphatic drainage, cupping, aromatherapy and hot stones. In the future I hope to add reflexology to the list of services I provide. It is my goal to customize the experience of every client who recieves massage services from me to best suit their needs.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
In 5-10 years, my body willing, I plan to still be offering my massage services with plans of expansion. Eventually I hope to add a couple more therapists to my business schedule and be able to maintain my business after I am no longer able to perform the services myself.
