Check Out Adam’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam.

Hi Adam, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I fell in love with Jiu Jitsu from day 1.
I walked into BTT Long beach and never looked back. Bjj has saved me in several physical altercation, and I have taught others how to do the same.
I won worlds masters at blue belt, and have been on the world podium a few times.
I moved to Oregon to open my gym/Academy. I lived in a back yard while I built my gym out myself to save money as I had a modest budget that would make any business adventure seem futile. I left my new wife and baby in So cal, so they would not have to sacrifice simple comfort while I built my dream. I accumulated over 100 students in my 1st 6 months and moved the fam out to our 1st apt. Success
……. 1 yr into business and already winning as a team in comp……. then… COVID, I was forced to get a loan, (which I still owe) to pay for rent in a space I couldn’t legally occupy according to OSHA’s demand letter that I shut down or be fined.
So I used the loan to get out of the lease for the building I couldn’t legally use.
My wife and I bought a house with a 1k sq ft building in the back so we could teach no and study on private property no matter what.
I am a 2nd degree black belt under Rigan Machado. I plan on teaching and rolling g all my life. Despite my missing ACL that needs a and replacement before I can compete again.
I now run a very modest team of savage bjj enthusiasts and competitors.
Never more passionate, even with my much more humble sized gym.
I had to get a full time job in the medical field to pay for my bjj teaching and competing habit.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being broke after covid, even now, wondering how I can pay that loan back.
All this only strengthens my resolve.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I work in the medical field. I specialize in labs and medical sales.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I’m color blind and love to paint.
I also do decent slight of hand magic…lol.
