Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathaniel Jones.
Hi Nathaniel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Our story starts years ago while visiting the University of Oregon and the surrounding city of Eugene on a cloudy day in March. We quickly fell in love with the community and the area. We made plans to relocate from Colorado to Oregon to open the Hippie Closet, a place where people can enjoy the art of creating tie-dye and immerse themselves in hippie/boho clothing. Our daughter enjoys all that UO has to offer, including playing in the University’s marching band in-between making Tie-dye.
We are a family owned and operated business with the goal of providing a creative setting to make your own tie-dye and choosing your own style with our selection of clothing. In our tie-dye studio “The Color Lab” you can pick from a wide variety of blanks to be dyed. We are here to help walk you through folding and dying techniques to Tie and Dye something great. We can accommodate walk ins, large groups or parties. Come in and check out the selection and experience all the color.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As we come upon our one year anniversary we have learned so much.. From sourcing natural fiber clothing and styles that people are interested in to providing the blank clothing to tie-dye, we’ve learned by listening to our customers what works best in our shop. Part of bringing in the hippie/boho clothing to the shop that our customers enjoy is learning that, even as a small shop, it’s important to have a variety of sizes. Tie-dying is an art form that we have been honing our collective skills on over the past year. We are better dyers than we were just a short time ago and have learned how to teach tie-dye techniques in ways that help each individual customer find joy in the learning process.
