Today we’d like to introduce you to Anja Mejia.
Hi Anja, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I became a Family Nurse Practitioner because I’ve always been fascinated by the human body and its incredible ability to heal, adapt, and thrive when given the right support. I wanted to understand not only how to treat disease, but how to help people live healthier, more fulfilling lives. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of caring for patients with chronic medical conditions, and while that work has been incredibly rewarding, it also reinforced something I deeply believe: many health conditions can be improved, or even prevented, through education, lifestyle changes, and a personalized approach to wellness.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my career has been witnessing the transformations that occur when patients take control of their own health. Seeing firsthand how nutrition, exercise, hormone optimization, stress management, preventive care, and other evidence-based holistic approaches can dramatically improve a person’s quality of life has been incredibly motivating. To me, holistic medicine doesn’t mean there’s a single solution for everyone. It means looking at each patient as a unique individual and creating a plan that addresses their specific needs, goals, and circumstances. My hope is that every patient leaves feeling empowered, realizing that meaningful change is possible and that they have far more control over their health than they may have believed.
That philosophy ultimately led me to take a leap of faith and open my own practice. Leaving the security of a stable career wasn’t an easy decision, but I knew I wanted the opportunity to build something that truly reflected my values. I wanted to create a place where wellness and beauty work together, where patients feel heard, educated, and cared for, not rushed through an appointment. I also wanted to become someone who could make a positive impact within my community by helping people feel healthier, stronger, and more confident.
Starting my own practice has been one of the greatest challenges of my life. Like many first-time business owners, I quickly realized that providing excellent patient care is only one part of running a successful practice. Navigating permits, building codes, licensing requirements, insurance, business regulations, construction, budgeting, and countless unexpected expenses became an education all on its own. There were moments when the process felt overwhelming, but each challenge reinforced my determination and taught me lessons that will continue to benefit me throughout my career.
Choosing Bend, Oregon was an easy decision because it embodies the lifestyle I want to live. It offers everything I’m passionate about mountain biking, skiing, hiking, kayaking, hunting, and spending time outdoors with family and friends. Beyond its natural beauty, Bend has an incredible sense of community and a culture that values health, wellness, and staying active. Living here has made it easier to choose healthy habits because they’re simply woven into everyday life. I’ve truly never been happier, and that happiness carries into the care I provide for my patients.
My practice is built around the idea that wellness and beauty are deeply connected. Feeling confident about your appearance can improve how you feel emotionally, while optimizing your health helps you feel your best from the inside out. I believe the best outcomes come from combining evidence-based medicine with preventive care and aesthetic treatments in a thoughtful, individualized way. Whether a patient is seeking to improve their health, restore confidence, or simply age well, my goal is to partner with them throughout that journey.
Opening this practice isn’t just the beginning of a business, it’s the realization of a vision I’ve had throughout my career, creating a place where patients feel empowered, supported, and inspired to invest in themselves so they can live healthier, happier, and more fulfilling lives.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but every challenge has strengthened my commitment to this dream. The biggest surprise was realizing that opening a medical practice involves so much more than practicing medicine. As a healthcare provider, I was confident in my clinical skills, but becoming a business owner meant learning an entirely new profession.
I had to navigate permits, building codes, licensing requirements, insurance, legal regulations, and construction, areas I had never imagined would consume so much time and energy. There were also many unexpected expenses that required careful planning and flexibility. Beyond the physical build-out, I had to develop a brand from the ground up, create a website, learn marketing strategies, implement an electronic medical record (EMR) system, establish office workflows, choose vendors, and make countless business decisions that directly impact the patient experience.
Perhaps the greatest challenge has been wearing so many hats at once. In a single day, I might be a healthcare provider, business owner, marketer, project manager, interior designer, accountant, and problem solver. While it has been overwhelming at times, it has also been incredibly rewarding because every obstacle has taught me something new.
Through the process, I’ve learned that resilience, adaptability, and a willingness to keep learning are just as important as clinical knowledge. Looking back, I wouldn’t change the journey because each challenge has helped shape not only the practice I’m building but also the person and entrepreneur I’ve become.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a Family Nurse Practitioner and owner of Soulera Medspa, my passion is helping people become the healthiest, most confident versions of themselves. My practice is built on the belief that true wellness goes far beyond treating symptoms or focusing solely on appearance. Health and beauty are interconnected, and when we care for the body as a whole, people not only look better, they feel better and live better.
I specialize in combining evidence-based wellness with aesthetic medicine. My practice includes medical weight management, hormone optimization, gut microbiome health, regenerative therapies such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for both aesthetic rejuvenation and musculoskeletal injuries, aesthetic injectables, skin rejuvenation, and personalized wellness plans. Whether I’m helping someone optimize their gut health, recover from a sports injury, reduce chronic pain, restore their confidence through aesthetic treatments, or improve their overall health, my goal is always the same: to treat the whole person, not just a symptom.
Every treatment plan is individualized because no two patients are alike. I take the time to understand each person’s medical history, lifestyle, goals, and concerns so we can create a plan that is tailored specifically to them. I believe the best outcomes happen when patients are educated, involved, and empowered to take an active role in their own health.
What I’m most proud of is helping people realize that they have more control over their health than they often think. Through education, preventive medicine, and personalized care, I have the privilege of watching patients transform, not just physically, but emotionally as they regain confidence, reduce pain, improve their health, and return to the activities they love.
What sets my practice apart is my approach. As a Family Nurse Practitioner, I bring a strong medical foundation to every treatment I provide. I don’t separate wellness from aesthetics because I believe they go hand in hand. My focus is on helping patients feel their best from the inside out, enhancing their natural beauty while addressing the underlying factors that influence health, longevity, and quality of life.
I am also committed to lifelong learning. Medicine is constantly evolving, and I believe my patients deserve the safest, most effective, and most advanced care available. I continually pursue additional education and specialized training so I can bring the latest evidence-based treatments to my community.
My goal is simple: I want every patient to leave feeling heard, empowered, healthier, and more confident than when they walked through my doors.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is feeling healthy, both physically and mentally. To me, good health is the foundation for everything else in life. When you truly feel your best, you have the energy, strength, and confidence to enjoy the people and experiences that matter most.
Living a healthy lifestyle allows me to do the things I love, whether it’s mountain biking, skiing, hiking, kayaking, or simply spending quality time with my family and friends. Those moments are what bring me the most joy, and I believe they’re possible because I prioritize my health and well being.
There is no greater feeling than waking up each day feeling your best and having the freedom to fully experience life. That’s also why I’m so passionate about what I do. I want to help others achieve that same feeling, to realize that investing in their health isn’t just about living longer, it’s about living better. My goal is to help people enjoy the highest quality of life possible so they can continue doing the things they love with the people they love.
