Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Hansen.
Hi Alyssa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Pacific Petals was born from a season of change. After spending 13 years as a registered nurse, I found myself longing for a slower, more intentional life that allowed me to be present with my young family while pursuing a creative passion I’d always loved. Flowers had always brought me joy, and what started as a dream gradually became a business centered around bringing beauty and connection into people’s everyday lives.
I believe flowers have a unique way of marking life’s moments. Whether it’s celebrating a birthday, expressing sympathy, or simply brightening someone’s week, flowers communicate emotions when words often fall short. That belief is what continues to inspire everything I create.
Today, Pacific Petals is a boutique floral studio based in Oregon City, specializing in thoughtfully designed arrangements, flower subscriptions, weddings, and events. Every arrangement is created with an emphasis on natural movement, seasonal blooms, and timeless elegance.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like many small business owners, one of the biggest challenges has been learning how to wear every hat. Running a floral business involves far more than designing flowers. There’s bookkeeping, marketing, website management, social media, customer service, sourcing products, and countless behind-the-scenes tasks that most people never see.
The floral industry also comes with unique challenges. Flowers are highly perishable, availability changes weekly, and every design depends on nature’s schedule. Learning to adapt, minimize waste, and build a sustainable business has been one of the greatest learning curves.
On a personal level, transitioning from a stable healthcare career into entrepreneurship required a leap of faith. There have been moments of uncertainty, but each challenge has strengthened my confidence and reminded me why I started. Seeing a customer’s reaction to receiving beautiful flowers makes every long day worthwhile.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Pacific Petals, I specialize in garden-inspired floral designs that feel elegant, natural and timeless. I love working with seasonal flowers and creating arrangements that have movement, texture, and a freshly gathered feel.
In addition to everyday arrangements, I offer flower subscriptions for those who want fresh blooms delivered regularly, custom designs for special occasions, and florals for weddings and events. I believe flowers shouldn’t be reserved only for major celebrations. They can bring beauty into everyday life and transform a home or workspace.
Every arrangement is designed by hand in my Oregon City studio, and I intentionally keep my business boutique so I can give each customer a personalized experience and attention to detail.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love how connected the Portland Metro area is to nature. Within an hour you can be hiking through forests, exploring the Columbia River Gorge, visiting local flower farms or enjoying the Oregon Coast. That natural beauty is a huge source of inspiration for my floral designs.
I wish it were a little easier for businesses to get noticed. There are so many incredible local entrepreneurs here, and sometimes it can be challenging to stand out. At the same time, it’s also what makes this community so special. We truly value supporting local.
