Inspiring Conversations with Heather Campbell of Made4More Fitness LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Campbell.

Hi Heather, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always thrived on change, adventure, and the pursuit of new knowledge. Early on, that drive was purely intellectual—a desire to stretch and expand my mind. It wasn’t until my late 20s, while advancing in my corporate career, that I realized I could challenge my physical body in the exact same way. Around that time, I took up mountain climbing, but I was also hit with debilitating panic disorder.

Unexpectedly, my path through anxiety was paved with physical movement. Climbing, running, and eventually strength training and nutrition became my ultimate toolkit for managing panic. Stepping into bodybuilding and powerlifting was transformative. Lifting heavy empowered me in a way nothing else had—I stood taller, developed genuine confidence, and reclaimed my sense of agency. Navigating intense physical discomfort taught me that I was capable of doing things that once felt impossible.

Once I realized I could overcome what had felt impossible, the conventional corporate path lost its appeal. When friends suggested I become a personal trainer, I initially laughed off the idea. Eight years later, after building a thriving strength coaching business in Portland, Made4More Fitness is expanding to New York, launching a mentorship program for rising personal trainers, scaling our remote coaching offerings worldwide, while continuing to offer powerlifting coaching and small group strength training.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting and running a business is intimidating, especially when you are diving in with zero prior experience and a heavy dose of imposter syndrome. In the beginning, the sheer volume of decisions—defining my ideal client, structuring offerings, navigating online versus in-person coaching, pricing, and setting up backend systems—felt overwhelming. I simply wanted to share my love of lifting; I didn’t want to deal with the business mechanics.

Just a few months after soft-launching Made4More Fitness, the pandemic hit. However, that disruption brought an unexpected silver lining: it eliminated the debate between online and in-person training. For the first eight months, we operated strictly online. When the world eventually reopened, the sudden surge in demand for in-person training felt like starting from scratch all over again.

As an independent contractor, finding the right facility was a major hurdle, particularly as a newer trainer with little leverage to negotiate terms. Fortunately, working under the owner of my first facility served as a masterclass in operations that set the foundation for my future success.

It took three years of constant refining, learning, and pivoting to truly solidify my identity as a coach, define my target clientele, and hone my training philosophy. The most vital lesson I’ve learned is that this evolution never truly ends. Growth requires continuous adaptation, and while that ongoing pivot is always a challenge, it is precisely what makes running Made4More Fitness so rewarding.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Made4More Fitness LLC?
At Made4More Fitness, we specialize in barbell-based strength coaching—anchored in the core movements of the squat, bench press, and deadlift. Whether our clients are training for longevity, health, and lifelong independence or preparing for a powerlifting meet, the barbell is our foundational tool. Regardless of age, experience, or background, every individual we coach learns to lift with a barbell.

We offer in-person training in both Portland, Oregon, and Highland, New York, alongside remote coaching for clients worldwide. As a proud queer- and woman-owned business, inclusivity and identity-affirming care are central to everything we do. Our team includes bilingual coaching in Spanish, ensuring we can support a diverse community and meet every client where they are on any given day.

We specialize in transforming the seemingly impossible into achievable milestones, helping our clients build physical resilience, mental strength, and long-term vitality. Many of the people who walk through our doors are caretakers and givers who spend their lives showing up for everyone else. Here, they learn to show up for themselves. We truly believe everyone is made for more—and our job is helping them prove it to themselves.

What matters most to you?
My core purpose is helping others discover their physical strength through the power of the barbell and a supportive community. We show our clients that what once felt impossible is entirely within reach—not just within the four walls of the gym, but across every area of their lives. When you learn to lift heavy, you gain a deep sense of confidence, resilience, and agency that naturally spills over into everything else you do.
