Today we’d like to introduce you to Gina Vaughn.
Hi Gina, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always been an athlete and loved to compete and try new things. When I was in my twenties I was competing in a lot of triathlons, marathons, century rides, you named it, I wanted to try it. My knees and hips started to hurt a lot and I was strong in many aspects but weak in others. So my husband suggested that I try pilates. (When Lagree first started it was called pilates plus) I was hesitant at first but a new Lagree studio had just opened up and I went to try it. I loved it! In 2016 we opened our first lagree studio. Fast forward to 2019 and our oldest son graduated high school so we were looking for a change of pace. We loved Bend and moved here. The pandemic hit and I was teaching private classes out of my home. In 2022 we decided to open a studio and we opened PureFit in the spring of 2023. I still love the lagree method just as much as I did when I started. I love helping people to feel strong within their own bodies and help strengthen them so that they can do other things they love like ski, mountain bike, etc. I’m in my forties now and still enjoy many different modalities but I don’t hurt the way I did back then because I have found a way to strengthen my body in a safe, low impact way.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
PureFit is a passion project for me. I didn’t get into this to make a ton of money I got into this industry to help people feel good about themselves and to be healthy. We love being a part of a community that helps people to get stronger, feel confident in their bodies and get a good workout in. I love the friends I have made and don’t mind the long hours as long as people smile and feel good about who they are and what they just accomplished.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a lagree instructor but I have many certifications that help me be a well rounded coach as well as experience and my own set of injuries that I have worked through in my life. I have been an athlete my whole life. I love to learn and I’m curious about the body. When I first was certified in Lagree I also was certified in classical Pilates both mat and reformer as well as TRX. I have taken many level two Lagree certification classes. And I try to learn as much as I can from as many different modalities that I can. I feel that they all helped me to become a better instructor. I have taken anatomy classes as well as specialty body classes to learn more about how the body moves and how the muscles work together. I feel that the more you practice on your own body and the more you learn about the human body the more you can teach people and read their bodies as they work out. I am a stickler on form and I am all about helping people get stronger even through injury and limited mobility. I try to consistently learn more so that I can teach more.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I would love to create a network and collaborate with local businesses, not only in Fitness, but small businesses that can work together to strengthen each other. Whether that is advertising for other businesses or maybe even creating a small pop-up to support each other.
