Inspiring Conversations with Karen of Care Anywhere Psychiatry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen.

Hi Karen, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story has never been a straight line—it has been built through resilience, hard work, and a genuine desire to create a better life while helping others along the way.

I was adopted from Honduras when I was around six years old and came to the United States without knowing what my future would look like. I grew up quickly, married young, and became a mother while still figuring out who I was and what I wanted for my life. Those early experiences taught me independence, perseverance, and the importance of continuing to move forward even when the path isn’t easy.

Healthcare eventually became that path for me. I began my career in nursing and continued pushing myself academically and professionally, eventually becoming both a Family Nurse Practitioner and a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Over the years, I realized that mental health was where I could make the greatest impact. I saw how often people struggled to find providers who truly listened to them, looked beyond a diagnosis, and took the time to understand the whole person.

That realization ultimately led me to build Care Anywhere Psychiatry. Becoming a business owner brought an entirely new set of challenges. I had to learn much more than medicine—I had to learn credentialing, insurance, regulations, billing, marketing, leadership, and all of the realities that come with building a practice from the ground up.

Today, my greatest passion is mental health as a whole. I work with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing a wide range of mental health concerns. I believe quality psychiatric care is about much more than identifying symptoms or prescribing medication. It requires understanding the whole person—their history, experiences, physical health, environment, and the challenges they face in everyday life. My goal is to provide thoughtful, individualized care that helps people better understand themselves and gives them the support and tools they need to move forward.

When I look at where I started compared with where I am today, I am incredibly grateful. I don’t consider my story one of overnight success. It is a story of continuing to learn, taking risks, making mistakes, rebuilding when necessary, and refusing to become too comfortable.

I am still building, still learning, and still dreaming bigger. For me, success isn’t simply having credentials or owning a practice. It’s having the ability to use everything I’ve learned—and everything I’ve lived through—to create something meaningful and hopefully make a difference in people’s lives.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I came to the United States from Honduras as a young child, had to adapt to a completely different life, and became a wife and mother at a very young age. I had to grow up quickly and learn independence and responsibility early.

Some of my biggest struggles have been balancing motherhood with school and building a career, financial challenges along the way, working long hours while continuing my education, and eventually navigating the difficulties of starting and growing my own practice. As a business owner, I’ve dealt with insurance and credentialing barriers, financial risks, difficult professional relationships, trusting the wrong people, and plenty of doors being closed in my face.

I’ve also had personal seasons where I’ve had to start over and rediscover who I am outside of being a mother, provider, or business owner.

There were many moments when quitting would have been easier, but every challenge taught me something. Those experiences gave me resilience, independence, and empathy, and they are a big part of why I look beyond a diagnosis and try to understand the person and the story behind it.

As you know, we’re big fans of Care Anywhere Psychiatry . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Care Anywhere Psychiatry was created around a simple idea: mental healthcare should be accessible, thorough, and individualized. We provide psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and comprehensive mental health services for children, adolescents, and adults.

One area I am especially passionate about is comprehensive ADHD assessment and treatment. I believe mental health diagnoses require more than a quick screening or checklist. My approach looks at the whole person—their history, symptoms, functioning, medical factors, and other conditions that may contribute to what they are experiencing.

What sets Care Anywhere Psychiatry apart is our personalized approach. As both a Family Nurse Practitioner and a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I bring both a medical and psychiatric perspective to patient care. I want my patients to feel heard, not rushed, and to understand the “why” behind their treatment.

I’m especially proud that Care Anywhere Psychiatry has continued to grow while maintaining the personal connection that inspired me to create the practice in the first place. We serve patients through both telehealth and in-person care, helping make psychiatric services more accessible to the communities we serve.

Ultimately, I want people to know that Care Anywhere Psychiatry is about more than prescribing medication or assigning a diagnosis. It’s about understanding the person behind the symptoms and providing thoughtful, compassionate, individualized care.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Resilience. I think that has been the most important quality behind my success. I’ve learned that things are not always going to go as planned—doors will close, people will disappoint you, and sometimes you have to completely change direction.

I’ve never been afraid to start over, learn something new, or find another way when something doesn’t work. I also don’t believe you ever reach a point where you know everything. I’m constantly learning, growing, and looking for ways to become a better provider and business owner.

More than anything, I’ve learned not to let where I started determine where I can go. Every challenge has pushed me to work harder, dream bigger, and keep moving forward.
