Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Twitty.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey into the design world started with a natural curiosity about how spaces shape the way we live and feel. I received my degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas. Graduating during the housing crisis of the early 2000’s never stopped my determination. I juggled three jobs, two in the design world and one slinging drinks at a restaurant. In 2010 I got my first real break working for a high-end design firm in Texas. After working there for 6-years, my husband and I took a gap year and backpacked around the world.
Travel and exposure to different design styles have played a huge role in shaping my perspective, helping me develop an approach rooted in storytelling. I use color, texture, and thoughtful details to bring each client’s vision to life in a way that feels authentic to them.
When we returned in 2017, I started my own business and have never looked back. Over nearly two decades, I’ve turned my original curiosity from high school into a career, building a reputation for creating interiors that are both deeply personal and highly functional.
What began as an intuitive passion has grown into Kevin Twitty Interiors, a full-service design firm dedicated to creating bold, livable spaces that reflect the individuality of the people who call them home.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In my early career, stepping into the design world during the aftermath of the ’08 financial crisis, when investing in interior design felt out of reach for many people, including myself. Building a business during that time required resilience, creativity, and the ability to build meaningful relationships while earning my clients’ trust.
The exact tome I decided to go out on my own, I moved 2000 miles away from Dallas, TX to Portland, OR. I had no client base or professional connections. For 2.5 years I built my reputation in Portland. At times it felt like going backwards and restarting my entire career. However, perseverance, persistence, and authenticity prevailed. It felt invigorating to have the hustle back in me.
Like many independent designers, I had to learn how to balance the roles of designer, business owner, and project manager while growing a brand from the ground up. Along the way, I developed my ability to guide clients beyond their comfort zones while still creating spaces that feel authentic to who they are and how they live.
Each challenge helped me refine my approach, finding the balance between bold creativity and everyday functionality. Those experiences shaped Kevin Twitty Interiors into the personalized, thoughtful design firm it is today.

What sets me apart as a designer is my ability to truly listen to my clients and translate their personal stories, lifestyles, and experiences into spaces that feel uniquely theirs. I believe the best designs are not about following trends, but about creating environments that reflect the people who live in them. My approach blends thoughtful space planning, bold use of color, meaningful details, and global influences gathered from my travels and studying design styles across more than 50 cultures. I love pushing clients just beyond their comfort zones while still creating spaces that feel authentic, functional, and timeless.
Throughout my career, my work has been recognized with multiple industry honors, including ASID Design Excellence Awards, the Visionary of the Year award, and the Chrysalis Award. These recognitions represent not only the quality of the spaces I create, but also my commitment to thoughtful, innovative design that enhances the way people experience their homes.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I have so many amazing memories throughout my life. Even through the hard times and challenging moments I view everything with a glass half full with a positive spin.
With that being said, if I were going to pick one thing, it’s probably all of the punk-rock concerts I went to. I love the feeling of jumping around, sing my heart out to my favorite emo and pop-punk songs and just feeling the music. Even to this day, I go into a trance-like state and just feel the euphoria of expressing my emotions as a concert, or loudly off-tune in my car.
