Today we’d like to introduce you to Nichol Spangler.
Hi Nichol, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
We are a family – owned and operated kennel dedicated to producing exceptional XL American Bullies with a strong emphasis on health, temperament, and structure. Above all, our goal is to raise dogs that become outstanding lifelong family companions.
Our journey began in 2021 when we welcomed Creed into our family from Monster Bully Kennels, one of the most well-known XL American Bully programs in the United States. From the moment we met Creed’s sire, Morpheus, we were captivated. He was one of the most impressive dogs we had ever seen—not only because of his size and presence, but because of his incredibly gentle, affectionate temperament.
As Creed grew, he reinforced everything we admired about the breed. His loyalty, stable temperament, intelligence, playful personality, and loving nature made him everything we could have hoped for in a companion. He inspired us to become deeply involved in preserving and promoting these qualities within the breed.
Over time, we built a wonderful relationship with Ryan and Nichole Gaurd of Monster Bully Kennel.. What began as a puppy purchase developed into a valued friendship and mentorship. While I grew up in a family that bred dogs, giving me a foundation in responsible breeding, Ryan and Nichole helped shape my philosophy as a breeder. They taught me to always prioritize temperament and health first, followed by sound structure, while maintaining the highest ethical standards.
Our dogs will always be cherished members of our family—not simply part of a business. That philosophy continues to guide every decision we make. We are committed to raising healthy, well -socialized dogs that excel not only in appearance but, more importantly, as loving, stable companions for their families.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest challenges has been the financial commitment required to breed responsibly and ethically. Is it easy? Absolutely not. In fact, doing things the right way is expensive—but it’s also the only way we’re willing to do it.
We invest heavily in the health and well-being of every dog and puppy. That includes reproductive veterinary care such as artificial insemination (AI), transcervical insemination (TCI), surgical breedings when medically appropriate, cesarean sections, progesterone testing, and comprehensive prenatal care. Every puppy is microchipped, begins its vaccination series at six weeks of age, receives a second vaccine before going home, is routinely dewormed, and receives regular veterinary examinations.
We also health test our breeding dogs once they reach maturity, with an average investment of approximately $1,000 per dog. Beyond veterinary care, we purchase high-quality whelping and puppy-rearing supplies—including ProFleece bedding, elevated feeding stations, milk supplements, and early potty-training materials—to give each puppy the best possible start in life. We focus on proper nutrition, development, and husbandry practices that support healthy growth and help minimize the risk of orthopedic issues such as hip and elbow dysplasia.
While these investments are significant, they reflect our commitment to producing healthy, well-socialized puppies and supporting them throughout their lives.
Fortunately, we’ve experienced only one serious puppy placement issue to date. In that situation, one of our puppies was injured after placement. We immediately exercised our responsibility, took the dog back into our care, and ensured it received the necessary treatment from our veterinary team. Although it was a difficult experience, it reinforced our commitment to standing behind every puppy we produce and doing what’s in the dog’s best interest, regardless of the cost.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
While my full-time career is in the medical field, breeding and exhibiting American Bullies is a true passion of mine. What began as a hobby has grown into a commitment to preserving and improving the breed through ethical, responsible breeding practices.
Although we are still a relatively new kennel, having produced our first litter in late 2022/ early 2023 I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished in a short period of time. To date, we have produced approximately eight litters, with our primary focus on placing puppies into loving family homes rather than selling them with breeding rights. Our goal has always been to produce healthy, stable, well-structured dogs that become exceptional lifelong companions.
