Today we’d like to introduce you to Lanna Jones.
Hi Lanna, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been an esthetician since 2007, and when I first started, I think I viewed skincare much more traditionally. Over the years, my relationship with skin and beauty has really changed. I became less interested in chasing perfection and more interested in understanding the person attached to the skin as each individual is unique.
While on my own healing journey, I was introduced to the practices of Ayurveda, which I studied for several years, as well as Reiki and energy work. These modalities really shifted the way I approached my work. I started seeing the treatment room as a place where people could slow down, reconnect with themselves, and truly embody the experience, rather than just come in, have a treatment, and leave with a bunch of products.
Today my practice is focused on the mind, body, spirit connection and how we live our daily lives. I work with a lot of people whose skin is changing because they’re changing—whether that’s hormonal changes, acne, aging, or simply being in a different stage of life.
As a holistic practitioner, I don’t want to participate in the idea that our skin is something we constantly need to fix. I want people to feel comfortable in their body and cared for as they are. Always be evolving.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been balancing a full-time job while also building my own business and trying to have a life outside of work. There’s a lot that people don’t see when they think about owning a small business—taxes, finances, marketing, administrative work, and constantly having to make decisions on your own. It’s been challenging, but it’s also taught me to trust myself, be patient, and keep showing up even when I don’t have everything figured out.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in helping people support both their skin and nervous system, with a particular focus on acne, perimenopause, menopause, and anyone looking for a more holistic approach to their skin and overall well-being.
What sets me apart is that I’m not interested in overwhelming people with a 12 step skincare routine. I do my best to meet people where they are in their commitment to their at home regime and focus on simple, sustainable rituals that they can actually incorporate into their everyday lives.
I’m very intentional about the brands I choose to carry. I’m proud to work with Alamano and Botnia, two small businesses whose philosophies align with my own. These product lines have elevated my treatments and help my clients get great results both in the treatment room and with their at home care. It is extremely important to me to support other small business owners and keep money local whenever possible.
Ultimately, I want to teach people rituals that help them stay connected to their bodies and embody a way of caring for themselves that can last long after they leave my treatment room.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I’m actually pretty thoughtful and careful about the decisions I make. But I do think some of the biggest risks I’ve taken have been trusting that everything will work out.
Starting my own business post Covid in a new town was probably the biggest risk I’ve taken. I was new to Portland, and I was terrified of taking that first step.
For me, risk doesn’t always mean making a huge, dramatic leap. Sometimes it’s just putting yourself out there when you have no guarantee that it will work out.
And honestly, I think sometimes the biggest risk is not doing anything at all.
