Today we’d like to introduce you to Celia Lovern.
Hi Celia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Portland and from the time I was little I always loved self care and all things beauty. I was always interested in beauty school but felt like I should go to college right after high school so I did go and do a year of college and lived in the dorms but ultimately didn’t go back for my second year and just started working primarily retail jobs planning to just work until I felt drawn to a career path. After a year or two I decided to follow that old intuition and go to beauty school initially thinking I would do facials. I graduated beauty school in 2020 and was stressed not knowing how I would find a job during Covid but my mom encouraged me i would figure it out, I started applying and found work and ended up falling in love with waxing and most of my time in the industry have focused on that. I love working in a field where I get to build women up and make them feel more confident, and love connecting with people so I enjoy my relationships with people so much! After 6 years of working at salons I decided to open my own waxing suite and that was in the end of April 2026. I have had so much fun getting to put my personality into my business it has been the best decision for me. I love the creativity I get with everything from decorating the space, picking the music, using my favorite products, choosing which products to retail, making first time goody bags, and getting to run a business with my own morals and how I feel is best, it has truly been a huge blessing and such a fun adventure.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Opening a business is never a fully smooth road but I think it has gone better than I imagined it would have. I did have savings but probably not as much as I should have and I did end up needing to open sooner than I expected so I had to hustle to get everything ready and make it all come together. And I’m also still on the learning curve figuring it all out but I’m blessed I’ve had people showing up and keeping me open. It’s also stressful going from having a job with a guaranteed paycheck to relying fully on if people come or not that day, throughout this journey I’ve relied so much on prayer and my faith in God to get me through and from day one i am so blessed that my prayers were answered and people have shown up to support me. I do have slow days sometimes a slow week but overall it feels like an upward and encouraging trajectory.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in waxing hair removal specifically Brazilians and eyebrows. I work really hard at my technique consistently to give the most comfortable and optimal results, I’m a perfectionist, I focus on consistent client experience. I’m known for always greeting you with a smile, I love to get to know the girls that come see me and chat and hopefully make their day better by the time they walk out, I also am a good listener and if you have a specific brow goal I will listen and help you achieve that to the best of my ability I don’t have a one size fits all approach each person will be different!
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I wouldn’t consider myself a risk taker typically but opening a business is always risky. I would say the business is my biggest risk I wasn’t as prepared financially as I would’ve liked to be going in but I had to make it happen and sometimes pressure can create results.
