Community Highlights: Meet Cameron Francey of Cameron Francey Health and Fitness Coaching

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameron Francey.

Hi Cameron, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Moving to the Pacific North West in 2006 from Scotland was quite a big step for me. Being surrounded by mountains lured me towards them, and really brought my interest in being active and outdoors to the forefront.
I started my coaching business after leaving the corporate stresses behind, where I had a successful IT career with a large global company. I have been working towards helping others achieve goals in various capacities for over 20 years. My interests in health and fitness gave me the motivation to use my people skills and experience helping others, so I brought the two together and started training clients in the gym. I found that personal training was working ok for those who were capable, but fell short when a client turned up with an injury, an ache or pain, which is actually pretty often. This was when I branched out and focused on helping people to move properly, get strong and coach them through whatever they were dealing with. As well as the movement and exercising aspect, I have also earned a Health Coaching qualification, so this rounds out the whole picture from coaching someone towards adopting healthy behaviors to actually achieving their lifestyle and fitness goals. I am always learning, and I believe that you really have to keep up to date with evolving methods to be able to safely and effectively help others thrive through movement and lifestyle practices. As long as someone has medical clearance to exercise, and the desire to make the needed changes then I can coach them towards these goals.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Training and then passing the certification exams gave me a really basic understanding of how to program exercise. However real life clients are not textbook case studies. After some time I had to dive deep into movement screening and what to do when someone had difficulties. As well as the steep learning curve of the coaching, starting my own business was not an easy path. Finding clients, marketing and dealing with finances was new, so both my wife and I have had to learn a lot of new skills too. We also built my training studio from the ground up because It became apparent that clients discussing sensitive personal issues on the floor in a public gym was not the ideal location.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My business is centered around developing professional and friendly relationships with clients who want to gain strength, feel more confident with daily activities, and maintain independence.
I set myself apart by having the experience and training to deal with clients who have challenges with mobility, posture, and pain, conducted in a private and safe environment. While also understanding when its necessary to refer out to a medical professional.

My service offerings range from helping someone struggling with pain while moving, to gaining strength and confidence to get back to enjoying life. My clients are all ages and abilities, and have individual needs and personal goals. I have a framework system which I use to progress them, but every client is treated as an individual and gets the time and attention they deserve. I don’t cram in back to back appointments and rush a client out the door. This is one comment that I have had from a number of clients, and how they like that I take the time to help them.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was an active kid living in rural Scotland, enjoying all sorts of outdoor activities. Running, bike riding, horse riding, and hill walking were my favorite activities. Electronics and radio was also something I really had an interest in. I studied Electrical Engineering and Electronics, and when I worked under a really skilled engineer I was taught to always be the best I could and do the best I could and have pride in what I do. This one lesson has carried though my entire career and personal life.
