Hi Lillian, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As a fifth-generation Oregonian and being born and raised in Portland, hard work has always been ingrained in me. Both of my parents were self-employed while I was growing up, and they taught me from a young age the value of hard work, perseverance, and believing in yourself.
I always knew that helping others was something I wanted to do, which ultimately led me to pursue nursing. At the time, I didn’t always believe in myself, but my parents pushed me, encouraged me, and believed in me every step of the way. I worked hard to earn my nursing license and graduated with honors.
After working at the bedside, like many nurses, I eventually experienced burnout and began looking for a way to continue caring for people while creating something of my own. That journey led me into aesthetics and ultimately inspired me to start my own business, Lillian Scott Aesthetics.
My business is also deeply personal to me. My father, whom I was named after, passed away traumatically in 2020, and building my business became a way for me to honor his memory and carry forward the values he instilled in me. Everything I’ve built has been shaped by the lessons my parents taught me: work hard, believe in yourself, and never be afraid to create your own path.
Today, I’m continuing my education in nurse practitioner school while growing my aesthetics business. I’m proud of how far I’ve come, especially knowing that I once struggled to believe in myself, and I’m excited to continue building something that combines my passion for healthcare, helping others, entrepreneurship, and empowering people to feel confident in themselves.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, especially when it comes to building a business from the ground up. Starting out on my own meant learning so much beyond the clinical side of aesthetics. I had to learn the business side, marketing, finances, inventory, client retention, and how to build a brand and a clientele from the ground up.
One of the biggest challenges has been learning to be patient with growth. When you’re building something of your own, there isn’t always immediate gratification, and there have been plenty of moments where I’ve questioned whether I was on the right path. Balancing running a business while working as a nurse and being in nurse practitioner school has also required a lot of discipline and time management.
But I think those challenges have been some of the most rewarding parts of the journey. I’ve had to learn to trust myself, be comfortable figuring things out as I go, and keep showing up even when things don’t happen as quickly as I’d hoped. Building something from the ground up has taught me a lot about resilience, patience, and what it really means to bet on yourself.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Lillian Scott Aesthetics is a medical aesthetics practice built around one simple idea: enhancing what makes each person uniquely beautiful rather than trying to make everyone look the same.
I specialize in natural-looking aesthetic treatments, including wrinkle relaxers, dermal fillers, full-face balancing, skincare, and other injectable services. My approach is very individualized. I take the time to understand what each client is hoping to achieve and then create a treatment plan based on their facial anatomy, goals, and comfort level. I want my clients to look refreshed, balanced, and like themselves, just the most confident version of themselves.
What sets Lillian Scott Aesthetics apart is the personal connection. As a solo injector, I’m able to build genuine relationships with my clients and be involved in every part of their experience. My nursing background and continued education as a nurse practitioner student also allow me to approach aesthetics from a strong clinical and anatomical perspective while still appreciating the artistry that comes with it.
I’m especially proud of the brand I’ve created because it represents so much more than aesthetics to me. I built Lillian Scott Aesthetics from the ground up while working as a nurse and continuing my education, and the name itself has a very personal meaning. My goal has always been to create a brand that feels elevated and professional, but also warm, approachable, and personal.
Ultimately, I want people to know that my business isn’t about chasing perfection. It’s about helping people feel confident in their own skin. Whether someone wants a subtle refresh or a more comprehensive treatment plan, my goal is for every client to leave feeling like the best version of themselves.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I wouldn’t describe myself as someone who takes risks recklessly, but I am someone who is willing to take calculated risks when I believe strongly in something.
Starting my own aesthetics business was probably one of the biggest risks I’ve taken. I was leaving the security of working for someone else and building something completely on my own, while simultaneously working as a nurse and going to nurse practitioner school. There was no guarantee that I would be successful, and there were plenty of moments when it would have been easier to stay comfortable and not take the leap.
For me, taking a risk doesn’t mean being fearless. It means being willing to move forward even when you don’t have every answer or guarantee. I try to make thoughtful decisions, educate myself, understand what I’m getting into, and then trust myself enough to take the next step.
I think some of the greatest opportunities in my life have come from being willing to step outside of my comfort zone. Building my own business has taught me that sometimes you have to be willing to bet on yourself before anyone else can see what you’re capable of. That mindset has become a huge part of who I am as an entrepreneur.
