Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Rivera.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in southern California and at the age of 25, I moved to Oregon looking for better opportunities. I worked in the restaurant industry for about 7 years while living in Lane County. I got the chance to start from the bottom and learn all the things I could about how a restaurant works. I was a cook for about 3 years then I moved up to busser and finally to waiter. For many years I worked at Ixtapa Mexican restaurant in Veneta with my uncle where I learned many of the basics. I wanted to branch out and have something of my own. Then I a cousin of mine told me that the owner of Ranchito Grill was looking for a business partner. I worked at Ranchito Grill for a year as a waiter, then I was able to partner in. This is when I started to feel like my dreams of having something of my own where coming to life. The owner of Ranchito knew I was interested in buying his business in full and in 2024 he sold me the business.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some of the struggles was finding a way to get into the restaurant industry. It is very hard to get an opportunity like the one I got. Starting a new restaurant from scratch is a tough business. It takes a lot of capital and work to get clientele. I think I was just at the right place at the right time and everything worked out.
As you know, we’re big fans of Ranchito Grill Mexican Restaurant. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Our specialty is offering homemade corn and flour tortillas. We want to be set apart and offer things that others in our area do not. We are very proud to have served our community for 16 years as “Ranchito Grill”. We want to continue to improve and offer new things. We have a new menu coming out very soon and we hope everyone appreciates our new items. And for those that have stuck around with us for all of these years we will continue to serve many of your all time favorites.
Any big plans?
We would like to get our name out there for anyone who has not heard of us. We are trying to stay active on our social media. We hope to able to continue to give back to our community.
