Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr John Briggs.
Dr John, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was delivered by one of the most notable Naturopathic Physicians in our history. Dr Bastyr in Seattle delivered me in 1951. He was my physician through childhood and treated me for Grand Mal seizures with some Carbamide powder from Standard Process which totally cured me. (By the way, I’ve relied on this company for the most natural and effective health care supplements during my entire career.)
After High School I went into the Navy and did three deployments to Vietnam. After coming home, I went to Dr Bastyr’s office to find out how to become a Naturopathic Physician.
I did my per-requisites close to home in Centralia, Washington, then I was to head to Kansas to continue my education.
That Summer of 1976, I was involved in an explosion which gutted me. I had my intestines in my hands and was bleeding out rapidly. Amazingly, the paramedics were in the vicinity of my folks home out in the country. I was operated on by two amazing surgeons, eight hours of surgery and eight units of blood. I spent a week in the hospital then two weeks later (fifty years ago), married my beautiful wife. Four days later I loaded a little U haul trailer and drove us from Olympia to Kansas to continue my education.
After two years in Kansas getting all my basis sciences, we moved to Portland, Oregon to finish my education at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine. Upon graduation in 1980, Dr Bastyr conferred my degree on me.
My next stop was to work with one Dr Bastry’s classmates, Dr William Turska in the little town of Mist.
In 1985, I opened my own practice in the town of Clatskanie just over the hill from Mist.
For the last 41 years, I’ve been a part of this community, caring for anyone far and wide. My patients range from the east coast to Texas, to Canada. For the past 25 years I’ve been part of a motorcycle ministry based out of Texas. Because of my activity with this ministry, Dr Savelle ordained me three years ago.
Presently I am the physician which “Whole Life Wellness” out of Texas uses to administer umbilical cord stem cells in the state of Oregon. This procedure I usually do on my days off where I travel to do the therapies.
When asked when I’m planning on retiring, I usually reply, “what else is there to do, I’d be bored.” My patients are more like an extended family. Work isn’t hard when you love what you do.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As listed before, Epileptic seizures, heavy combat in Vietnam, an explosion which almost took my life, threats from the government while understanding the dangers of the COVID vaccine and warning patients against it. Financial stressors trying to comply with zoning regulations to build our office. Just the daily, ordinary things.

My practice centers around the premise that the majority of disease centers around “sins of omission” Not consuming the nutrients the body requires, and “sins of commission” consuming those elements that damage the body. Lastly, issues of the mind, will, and emotions. This would be issues of the soul.
When our thoughts go opposite to health, there is a part of the brain known as the hypothalamus which governs the autonomic nervous system and the endocrine system. These are the switches which affect every area of health. When fear, anger, unforgiveness rules, the control of your body’s normal function is impared. Living a life of faith, hope, and love can go a long way toward divine health.
A major focus I employ is that of nutrition. God put Adam and Eve in a garden, not a pharmacy. To use pharmaceuticals to correct nutritional imbalances only delays the inevitable. Drugs used to address issues of cellular starvation is not Naturopathic medicine. I shudder when I hear of Naturopaths dispensing statin drugs instead of finding the cause of the problem and fixing that..
