Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Beech.
Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Interior spaces speak to me. I have always been drawn to the way a space can make you feel-the sense of comfort it can give, and the memories that are created there. There is a natural way in which we choose to surround ourselves with the things that spark emotion, that make us feel at home.
I’ve done a lot of different things throughout my life but that love of home and creating meaningful spaces has always been there. My friends and family used to ask if I would come “Jen” their space. That was always such a compliment and quickly became my favorite thing to do. So, when the opportunity presented itself really lean into that passion and turn it into something that I love I jumped at it. It felt like a very natural next chapter for me. Taking something that I loved and finally giving myself permission to pursue it.
Just over five years ago now, with a little bit of fear and a whole lot of excitement I took a leap and started my own small business.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I opened at the tail end of Covid, which was definitely an interesting time to start a small business. But from the very beginning, I felt an incredible amount of support from my family who rooted for me, friends who cheered me on, the community, and especially from the customers who showed up and continued to support for me along the way. I also learned pretty quickly to say yes to opportunities and projects, even when I wasn’t completely sure I was ready for them. These ‘yeses’ pushed me, helped me grow and really shaped the business into what it is today. So, I’m incredibly proud and honestly just really happy to say that we recently celebrated our five-year anniversary.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I think I naturally walk into a room and immediately start thinking how I could make it better than I found it-how I could make it feel warmer, more inviting and comfortable, more lived in. For me, it really is all about the details. Those little unexpected things are what give any space its personality, tells its story, the person who lives there’s story. That’s what home should feel like. This naturally grew into so much more than just the retail side of the business. It led to staging homes for real estate which I really love because for most of us a home is the biggest purchase we will ever make and how a space feels can be incredibly powerful. Setting the stage for that first impression that could lead to so many memories made is an honor. That lead to helping customers in styling their own homes. I think that there can be so much pressure for us to define our “style’, but I don’t really believe you have to. Styles and trends are always changing. Your home should be a collection of things you love, brought together in a way that feels cohesive, comfortable, and uniquely you. That’s what I really love being a part of when it comes to the people who come in and more often than not become friends.
