Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessi Pranski.
Hi Jessi, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have been doodling since a young kid. I always had a pencil or marker in hand. In 2019 I wanted to finally start sharing my art with the world by selling it in sticker form. Then life happened and 2020 happened. My family packed up and left the town I had lived in for 39 years to move to Southern Oregon. Figured now was the time to go full speed with the art and I did. Started telling people that I am an artist and I have been saying yes to all the things since.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Smooth road yes, and a lot of struggles. I say both because it is a struggle every day to say out loud that I am an artist and this is my life now. Smooth roads because I keep saying yes to opportunities that come my way and just figure it out as they come up. By doing so I have done things I could not have even dreamed of. I guess you could say it’s like a choose your own adventure book but I’m not the one picking which adventure to go to next, the universe is doing that for me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am known for my doodles. I call myself a doodle artist. All my art starts out as an idea in my head, a saying I tell myself or have heard. Then I transfer the art onto paper and or my ipad. From there I take my art and make it into either a sticker, a bookmark clip, a planner pad, tote bag, or a wooden pin. I am very proud of the fact that no Ai is used in any of art and that I manufacture 90% of all my products. If I do need to use an outside source I always use local first. Using my own art to make my product and packaging helps set me apart from others.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck is a funny thing. I like to think that you are only “lucky” if you put yourself out there. I really wanted to share my art with the world and make a living off of it. Honestly, the only way I knew how to get started was by saying out loud that I am an artist. If someone asked what I do my answer was and is “I’m a doodle artist” plain and simple. Putting my self out there was/is the hardest part, I guess luck comes from that.
