Community Highlights: Meet Elizabeth (Lizz) Bacon of Musement Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth (Lizz) Bacon.

Hi Elizabeth (Lizz), thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been an entrepreneur for most of my working life. Back in 2007, I founded Devise Consulting, helping product management teams with research, design, and strategy at the earliest stages of inventing something new, and I still run it today. In helping organizations pursue business opportunities, I learned to listen closely to what customers really need so I could guide teams to deliver innovative, heart-centered solutions.

In 2012, I put that approach to work in the wellness domain. I founded and launched Find Wellness, which was an early online marketplace that connected people with natural health & wellness practitioners using natural language search tools. Although I sold the business in 2014, it made a huge impression on me to see how many people are looking for relief, and how hard it is for them to know where to begin. It also opened my eyes to the breadth and depth of energy work modalities.

I’ve studied meditation and human energy systems for more than 25 years, and that remained a personal practice for a long time. I also began to play the drums in 2018, and fell in love with percussion as a form of creative expression as well as emotional therapy. In 2024, I took the plunge to become a Certified Sound Healer. I opened the doors of Musement Wellness that year, providing Sound Baths experiences around Portland. In particular, my collaboration with the lovely yoga teacher Pamela Sery to put on Full Moon Yin Yoga + Sound Bath events proved a resounding success.

After a stint in a corporate role helped to clarify how I want to live and operate, I decided to build a business around the practice of sound & energy therapy. Here in 2026, I became a Reiki Master Teacher, certified Biofield Tuning practitioner, and Certified Meditation Coach. I renovated a space in my home and opened the doors to my private wellness studio in Portland’s Montavilla neighborhood. I’m thrilled to support individuals in Portland and, really, around the world through these powerful wellness modalities.

At heart, I’m a synthesizer. Running a product design consultancy and a wellness practice side by side might look like two separate paths. To me, they’re the same work of helping people get to where they want to go in a deeply heart-centered way.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not always, and I’m grateful for that. “Smooth seas never made a skilled sailor,” as I have been known to say!

Credibility has been one of the biggest challenges with launching Musement Wellness. Energy work sits in a space where people are rightly skeptical, as the wellness market is full of products and claims that don’t hold up to scrutiny. I bring the same habits I use in product research: I look closely, ask hard questions — and personally, I’m willing to say “I don’t know.” That approach has kept me grounded as I’ve developed my own practices. However, I recognize that it takes time to earn trust with people who’ve been oversold before, or who don’t understand the operating levers of sound & energy therapy.

The practical side has had its moments, too. When you run a small business, you’re also the IT department. I recently lived through a hosting migration that wiped out recent work on my websites, and I learned about the importance of automated backups the hard way.

Running two businesses also means managing my calendars and allocating my attention carefully. Additionally, I’m writing a professional book about how to sustain our souls while working on teams by cultivating positive mindsets and heartsets (mental and emotional states), which I envision as the capstone to my 25 years in product development circles. I must say, authoring a book is not for the faint of heart! Hopefully, I’ll be done with the hard work of writing it later this year.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Musement Wellness offers sound and energy therapies that help people relax deeply and reconnect with their own capacity to heal. My offerings include and blend the following modalities:

Biofield Tuning: one-on-one sessions with tuning forks, also offered remotely
Sound Baths: group sessions with acoustic instruments, including crystal bowls, gong, handpan, chimes, and more
Reiki Energy Healing: in person or at a distance
Guided Meditation Coaching: offered remotely

What sets me apart is the pairing of my intuitive guidance with my intellectual rigor. I’m a Stanford University graduate and also have a Master’s Degree in design, so I bring a balanced blend of creativity and analysis to bear on everything I do. I’ve spent the bulk of my career studying how people experience things, and I bring that attention to every interaction with my clients. I don’t lean on spiritual jargon or promise cures. I care deeply about what clients actually feel afterward. They’ve told me they sleep better, make decisions more clearly, finally let go of something they’d been carrying, or experience relief from chronic health complaints.

On the brand side, I’m proudest of the name and logo mark, both of which I created myself. I’ve long been drawn to the vision of the “muse” as guiding the spirit of inspiration inside all of us, and I love the playful connection to the happy word “amusement”. I want to help people tap into the infinite joy possible in this earthly life, and the lyrical logo mark blends the yin-yang symbol (the taijitu) with the infinity loop. For me, this shape expresses balance as an ongoing practice, instead of being a fixed state.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Networking is fun when you love the type of people you’re networking with! The key to me is to stay curious, stay optimistic, and be as authentic as you feel safe being in every context.

I’ve always embraced being a part of a larger community of practice in my professional life. In the design and product management realms, I actively participated in some of the earliest dialogs among practitioners, even as these professions were being defined and solidified in the business world. When I moved to Portland in 2005, I started a local group for design practitioners to meet up, and this initiative led to my being invited to join the board of directors of the Interaction Design Association from 2007-2010. I have found mentors among the people who are ahead of me in their careers simply by engaging sincerely and getting to know them. I’ve also been a mentor to many people I worked with, whether in consulting or employment roles.

I’ve been equally thrilled by and appreciative of the wellness practitioners who are my newest professional cohort. I love attending wellness networking events of all sorts, from wellness fairs to dedicated meetups. My teachers have become my mentors, and I look forward to being a mentor someday, in turn.
