Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyley Keller.
Hi Kyley, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised right here in Redmond, Oregon, and grew up spending my time traveling every corner of this incredible state.
I graduated high school in 2021—a unique time when restrictions meant only 10 people per family could attend the ceremony. Afterward, I decided to head to college as a business major. While taking some photography classes, I realized just how deeply passionate I was about capturing moments and knew I wanted to keep that passion under my belt as a photographer.
At the time, I realized traditional college wasn’t the right path for me, so I stepped directly into the dental field without college. I worked hard, passed all my state board exams, and built my career as a dental assistant. After falling in love with dentistry, I decided to go back to school to further my education so I can eventually become a dentist.
Today, my life is full and fast-paced: I’m balancing life as a full-time student, working a full-time job in dentistry, and running my photography gig on the side.
Having seen Oregon through every literal season—and through many metaphorical seasons of my own life—this place truly has my heart. Every step of the journey has shaped who I am and how I see the world.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I don’t think the best paths ever truly are.
Like so many people figuring out their twenties, one of my biggest hurdles early on was simply not knowing what I really wanted to do with my life. Changing directions—leaving business school, pivoting straight into dental assisting, and later deciding to take on pre-dental studies while building a photography business—came with a lot of uncertainty.
Along the way, I’ve faced my fair share of financial burdens, balancing the reality of funding my education, investing in photography equipment, and managing daily life. Navigating mental health struggles while juggling a full-time job, a full-time course load, and a growing business has tested my strength in ways I didn’t expect. On top of that, imposter syndrome has definitely crept in, whether sitting in tough science courses or stepping behind the camera to capture once-in-a-lifetime moments, it’s easy to doubt whether you’re good enough or doing ‘enough.’
What I’ve learned through every peak and valley, though, is that those struggles don’t mean you’re on the wrong path; they just mean you’re growing. Navigating those metaphorical seasons in Oregon has built my resilience and given me so much empathy, both for my dental patients and for the incredible people I photograph.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m the photographer behind Life Through Kyley’s Lens, where I capture authentic, emotion-filled portraits and story-driven moments across Central Oregon and beyond. I specialize in outdoor lifestyle portraits, including high school senior portraits, couples and engagement sessions, family photography, and intimate weddings. My work is all about embracing the rich, atmospheric beauty of the Pacific Northwest and creating timeless images that feel like a true reflection of the people in front of my lens.
I’m known for my natural warmth, cinematic style and my ability to make people feel completely comfortable and natural in front of the camera. Sessions with me aren’t about stiff, rigid poses; they’re about genuine laughter, quiet connections, and enjoying the outdoors. Whether we’re exploring local trails, capturing golden-hour light at Smith Rock, or bringing creative themed ideas to life, my clients know they’re getting a relaxed, fun experience where they can just be themselves.
I am most proud of building a photography business that is purely digital, intentional, and deeply rooted in community. Starting from scratch, learning the craft inside and out, and earning the trust of so many incredible clients while balancing full-time studies and a full-time job in dentistry is something I hold close to my heart. Every single gallery I deliver is a reminder of how far passion, resilience, and hard work can take you.
What truly sets my work apart is my perspective and heart for people. Balancing dental care with photography might seem like two different worlds, but both require deep empathy, meticulous detail, and an eye for human connection. Growing up traveling Oregon through every season, and navigating my own personal seasons, has given me an eye for finding beauty in raw, honest moments. I treat every session not just as a job, but as an opportunity to tell someone’s story in a way that feels real, warm, and lasting.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was a true Oregonian through and through, always happiest outdoors and deeply connected to nature.
My childhood was filled with camping trips across the state, fishing, crabbing along the coast, raising chickens at home, and the annual tradition of heading into the woods to cut down our own Christmas trees. One of my favorite everyday memories was simply watching deer wander into our yard to eat apples straight off our trees.
Personality-wise, I was filled with joy, observant, and naturally drawn to capturing the world around me. In fact, I truly had a camera in my hands from the moment I was old enough to understand how to use one. That outdoorsy upbringing, paired with a camera constantly at my side, taught me to slow down, appreciate the quiet beauty in everyday life, and notice the subtle details, a perspective that still guides everything I do today.
