Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosa Rodriguez.
Hi Rosa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I always loved the beauty industry and since I was very little doing my nails was something I enjoyed doing. I started cosmetology school when I was 19 years old. I had my first daughter already. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to finish school at that time due to my situation at home not being so stable. I had my son soon after that and worked part time jobs for a little when my kids were small. A few years went by and I made the decision to go back to cosmetology school and get my nail tech license. It wasn’t easy, I worked some nights and also at a pharmacy during the day while going to school but I was able to complete it and get my nail tech license.
I worked other part time jobs besides doing nails when I first began working at a salon. I almost gave up doing nails a few times because I would get discouraged sometimes trying to learn new techniques or build up my clientele. I kept pushing myself. I also worked at a salon called Sun Palace in Medford, OR where I learned a lot. Some of the nail techs there with more experience took the time to teach me what they knew and how to improve my work. We also did photo shoots of different themes and we would focus on perfecting our nails. My kids have also always been my motivation to continue and show them not to give up and have patience. I would constantly be practicing and promoting my work. Thankfully I have met some of the kindest and supportive people in my nail journey. I have clients that have stayed with me since the beginning and we can laugh about it now how sometimes my work was not the best but it improved so much. I take pride in my work and the details that come with it. When I do some one’s nails they’re wearing my work and my name goes with it so I take pride in that, to do my best not only for myself but for my clients as well. I love being able to give them beautiful nails it makes me very happy. I now have a private suite in a salon called Bellissima Beauty Ko. In White City, OR and also partnered with a good friend for a press on nail business called YIRO Luxe Nails.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The first 2 years were the most difficult trying to build up my clientele when my work still needed a lot of improvement. I also had difficult situations in my home that I had to figure out and how to organize my time with my children to be able to work full time once I was able to stay booked but still have time for my children’s needs.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I do nails. I mainly do sculpted acrylic nails using nail forms and gel nails. I’m known for my nail art and also lasting nails. Some of my clients come with new nail trends or design ideas and I’m always willing to try. I’m mostly proud of my work how much I have improved and continue to grow. My clients leave happy and that’s something I take pride in to give my clients my best. What sets me apart is my creativity and willingness to try new things. I really listen to my clients and bring their ideas to life also adding my own artistic touch. I take pride in making sure every set is detailed, unique, and leaves my clients feeling confident and happy.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The thing I like the most about my city is that we have a very supportive community that helps support small businesses and encourages each other to grow. The thing I like least about my city is that there aren’t as many nail and beauty events or opportunities for beauty professionals to connect, learn, and grow. I’d love to see more events that bring the local beauty community together and support small businesses.
