Today we’d like to introduce you to Dorsey Beckman.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Maybe my story starts with a girl who always felt deeply connected to nature—the mountains, flowers, waterfalls, and streams.
Or maybe it starts in Fort Collins, Colorado, where I met my husband at a local rafting shop. We spent the next twenty years building a life together—getting married, moving to Golden, becoming parents, and raising three boys. Eventually, we found our way to Oregon, where we welcomed our fourth son.
Somewhere along the way, motherhood, marriage, creativity, spirituality, and the question of who I am as a woman became impossible to separate. Motherhood especially deepened my relationship with home. Home became sacred to me—a place to gather my family, to nurture, to create, to rest & heal, and to find my way back to myself.
I’ve always expressed my creativity through the spaces I live in. I carry that with me wherever I go. I’ve made home in houses, in apartments, and even in a tent along the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon. Wherever I am, I want to make a little beauty, bring in something from nature, arrange my surroundings, and create a space that feels like me. It’s about the sacred feeling of being at home.
I first found Feng Shui in high school, rearranging and redesigning rooms in my family’s home and has stayed with me ever since. At its heart, Feng Shui is about intention—deciding what we want to make space for and then creating an environment that supports it. That same thread runs through my work as Certified Feng Shui practitioner & Intention teacher.
Girl Nature Company grew from all of this—from my love of nature, sacred home, motherhood, creativity, and the freedom to become more fully ourselves.
This is the work I want to share: designing dreams come true!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have certainly been smoother parts than others.
I am deeply rooted in gratitude for this life here on Earth—for my family, my friends, my home, and all that I have been given. And still, some parts of becoming who I am have been hard.
Healing from birth has been difficult, both physically and spiritually. The transformation from maiden to mother & wife has asked more of me than I ever imagined. Being diagnosed as neurodivergent at 40 has also asked me to look back at my life through a completely new lens and learn to understand myself with more compassion.
And learning to design my dreams into a life I can actually live has not always been easy either.
But it has been worth it.
I believe in, even the tiniest seeds we sow today. Even when we can’t yet see what they will become, they are growing. And before we know it, those tiny seeds can become the brightest, most beautiful flowers, completely supported & cared for.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My creativity lives in many places—Feng Shui, flower essences, herbal medicine, making a home, tending our farm, and encouraging people to believe in themselves.
What am I most proud of?
My four healthy, funny boys.
The farm my husband and I have built with our own hands, blood, sweat, tears, and a whole lot of love.
And perhaps most of all, the courage to stand back up. Again and again.
To take care of myself. To love myself. To show up for my life and honor this body as my temple.
I think that is what I bring to my work, too. I don’t have it all figured out. I’m living it alongside you.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Self-advocacy.
Learning, slowly, that I matter.
That my needs matter. My voice matters. My body matters. My thoughts & dreams matter.
And that you matter, too.
We deserve to feel good in our bodies, homes, and lives.
I’ve had to learn to speak up, to listen to myself, and to choose myself without apology.
I’m still learning.
But I know this now: we are worth standing up for.
