Check Out Joseph Chandler’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Chandler.

Hi Joseph, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my trade after I had moved up to Alaska and got an offer to paint on federal projects. I took up the job because I loved the trade, the pay, and the opportunity to travel all around Alaska. I worked for almost 12 years doing some of the biggest jobs like the first largest satellite in the world, the newest hangers and intelligence planning building for our newest jet fleet for the Airforce, and even one of the first space force/ navy seal bases out of state on Pearl Harbor.
After I learned my trade it was time to move back home to Oregon and grow roots as well as start my own company. I decided while I was still in Alaska, I was going to get my contractors license before I moved home. Sadly right after I passed the test, I had a brother pass away and though I wasn’t quite planned out, I knew it was time to make the move.
I lived mostly in Dundee Oregon growing up but I moved to central Oregon because that’s where my brothers lived and I always loved visiting them there from Alaska. I began growing the buys ones in small ways, asking family and friends for work to start. Eventually for marketing I would go door to door, pass out flyers, and attend home shows to get the word out as much as possible about my company.
Eventually, my clients would love my work so much that I started getting referrals from a lot of them, slowing down my need for marketing and growing my need for an employee. I’m currently between the sweet spot of wanting quality work and teaching someone else to do the same quality work I do to be able to take on more projects and be confident in the product I provide.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think the biggest struggle for me in the beginning was organization. With so many moving parts, it’s hard to be certain what’s most important to take on next. It forced me to be organized and constantly reprioritize what is most important so that I can stay ahead of any problems. I can list so many more but I can imagine growing a successful business comes with bumps and if you let small ones get to you then your motivation and desire to learn won’t last long.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I think what sets me apart from others and my desire for art and work. Growing up I was always more into creative designs with art, poetry and music but my life would change in a different direction when I picked up sports and became very successful in them. It wouldn’t be until I needed a job growing up that I would find the combination of both work as a painter in the adventurous lands of Alaska and the creativity I desired in painting.
I’m very proud of the work I do now but I’m excited to add my own touch of creativity to give homes a distinct look and feel while possibly selling the art I create on the side to make it even more special.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I absolutely love bend. Beyond the beautiful mountains and wilderness to explore, what’s most attractive about bend and the surrounding cities are the healthy loving people that live and visit here. It is always such a great feeling to talk to positive people and work easily with all of my clients. I wouldn’t want to start a business anywhere else!!!
