Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Palin.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been with the Hillsboro Farmers’ Markets since April 2024. Prior to my current position of Coordinator, I spent many years in corporate retail, customer service, and even pet grooming. As a lifelong attendee of community events, concerts, and festivals I was drawn to work for the market as I found the idea of being surrounded by a wide variety of people, small businesses, and day-t0-day activities…there’s a strange similarity in setting up tents for the Vans Warped Tour and setting up tents for a farmer’s market! Three seasons later I have met some incredible community members that are true pillars of our city and state; the farmers who are keeping our food systems going in times of uncertainty, and the small business owners who are truly passionate about what they do.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The advantage and disadvantage of working as an event coordinator is that every day is different! Logistical problems like weather, permit issues, even cars left on the market footprint require quick thinking, problem solving, and a confidence in executing these solutions that personally, only comes with experience. Additionally, interacting with such a wide variety of personalities in different roles, including city leaders, vendors, volunteers, staff members, board members, and customers is an ongoing exercise in developing and strengthening my communication skills.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am most proud of my ability to relate to and empathize with others. I recently completed my bachelors degree in Communication which I can attribute much of this to, however I believe my diverse work background is what has laid the foundation for my success as a Coordinator.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I find energy from other people being passionate and excited about what they do! The tagline on all of my social media accounts says “shenanigans enthusiast”, which I think has been the most accurate way to describe my passions since as far back as I can remember. I love people, events, my community, and connecting with all of those things in authentic ways.
