Check Out Tory Massey’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tory Massey.

Hi Tory, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My passion for photography started at a young age. There was never a time in middle school that I didn’t have a disposable camera on me capturing those around me! That love for photography carried on for years as a hobby. Mostly taking a back stage to a 9-5 in my adult years but that itch, that passion for photography never subsided. It wasn’t until 2022 that I decided it was time to invest in myself and give being a small business owner a try. I started booking family sessions for close friends and family, newborn sessions, and really just anything that landed in my lap. However, I was hesitant about jumping into wedding photography! That was one avenue I didn’t want to walk down lol The thought of it all overwhelmed me because I knew how much goes into a wedding day and how precise you have to be about capturing detail by detail. WELL little did I know 7 months into starting my business I would take on my first wedding and ABSOLUTELY fall in love with it. The next season I booked 8 weddings and then doubled that the following year! Weddings are my bread and butter, the joy I get to capture between couples and their loved ones is something that will get never old!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Being a small business owner means wearing several hats. One of the most challenging hats to wear for me was keeping up with social media. In my line of work, creating content to get discovered is one of the biggest tasks, but has so far proven to be the most rewarding!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a lifestyle photographer specializing in weddings and elopement photography. I have to say I am most proud of the connection I build with my clients. You cannot truly understand how to photograph a couple without building a relationship with them. This connection continues even after their story begins…with maternity sessions, newborn, and more.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Photography is forever changing but that is the one thing I love about it! It’s unpredictable but adaptable. It keeps us photographers on our toes and pushes us to learn new styles/trends constantly.
