Today we’d like to introduce you to Trish Wilson.
Hi Trish, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My husband was retired. I was still running a daycare/ preschool in our home. After 35 years I needed a change. Idea of cat or dog boarding . We had both. Can’t do dogs in town. Made the decision easy. Checked laws, visited other batteries in several states.
My husband and his brother and I designed this one and the boys built it. I opened it 18 months later. My husband( retired teacher) helped with daycare while I got cattery going. Closed the daycare 1 year later. Been loving doing Kittycathotel for almost 11 years

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Building took longer than anticipated.
In the beginning we had 6 different cats just left here by people. That was very hard. But we found them new homes. Just hard to understand that. So had to change our contracts to address that. We tried doing cats with diabetes to help people out. Higher education a x vet tech to help. That didn’t work out so well. Unfortunately we no longer offer that service. What to do with all the kitty litter was a problem. People showing up whenever they choose tied me down 24/7 at first. We have sense set daily hours and for 6 years have had a wonderful person who works for us.
That’s helped there. It runs pretty well now. I’m a paper girl so paper contracts can be time consuming but that’s ok.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are a small 16 room cattery. No outside runs. So there is no way a cat can escape. We have wonderful rooms with climbing shelves. Most have windows all have hiding boxes a bed up high and kitty box. We require vaccines and clean / sanitize each room thoroughly between cats and spray for fleas.although we do ask all cats are treated for fleas. We use chemicals that will not harm cats. Never bleach.
The cats are aloud playtime outside of there rooms by themselves if they want each day within the play area of the cattery. Myself and the girl who works for me both have vet tech and years of expirience.with small animals. Our customers comment often about how clean it is and how it doesn’t smell bad. We take pride in that. We love what we do. Meeting people,hearing there stories and loving on their kitties. We understand the love and bond of their furry family members.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I work hard, I am dedicated to this businesses success and trying to keep it affordable for our customers. I try to understand each client’s special needs for their kitty and meet the kitty where it is. Scared,shy,outgoing,fun. We try to make them all feel comfortable we keep in regular touch with owner’s while there gone. So they are comfortable . I enjoy our customers and there cats. Some have become dear friends.

- 2 in same room $28.00 a day. No medical problems
- 3 cats same room. Same food $38.00 a day
