Hi Alivia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story honestly started with burnout. I was working in healthcare and knew I couldn’t see myself doing it forever, so I enrolled in beauty school almost on a whim, with absolutely no idea where it would take me.
I started waxing out of my house just one month postpartum because I didn’t have any clients or money yet to afford a studio. I truly started from nothing, taking whoever was willing to trust me, learning as I went, and slowly building my clientele one person at a time.
Eventually, I was able to take the leap and open The Wax Suite Medford. What started as a decision I made during one of the most uncertain seasons of my life has grown into a successful business, an amazing clientele, and something I’m genuinely so proud to call mine. There were plenty of moments I had no idea if it would work, I just refused to stop trying. And somehow, that little waxing room in my house turned into The Wax Suite Medford.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not. I think social media can make owning a business look a lot easier than it actually is. I started with almost no clientele, waxing out of my house while newly postpartum and trying to build something before I even knew if it would work.
There were months where I questioned everything, compared myself to other people in the industry, worried about money, and wondered if I had made the right decision. Even as the business grew, the challenges just changed. I had to learn how to run a business while also learning who I was as a business owner, all while being a mom and navigating some really difficult seasons in my personal life.
I’ve made mistakes, changed directions, outgrown things, and had plenty of moments where I wanted to give up. But I think that’s also why I’m so proud of The Wax Suite Medford. None of it was handed to me. I built it during some of the hardest and most transformative years of my life, and I kept showing up.
We’ve been impressed with The Wax Suite Medford, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Wax Suite is a private, one-on-one waxing studio specializing in full-body and Brazilian waxing for all genders. Of course I want to give my clients an amazing wax, but what I’m most proud of is the environment I’ve created around it.
Waxing can be incredibly vulnerable, and I’ve worked really hard to create a space where people can show up exactly as they are. No judgment, no embarrassment, and definitely no need to apologize for your body. I’m known for making people feel comfortable, educating without making anyone feel intimidated, and probably making them laugh at least once while they’re on my table.
I also have a huge passion for the skincare side of waxing, which is where “Where Waxing Meets Skincare” came from. I offer services like vajacials, intimate chemical peels and other skin treatments, while putting a big emphasis on proper aftercare and education.
More than anything, I want people to know The Wax Suite Medford is for everybody. Come as you are. I’ll take care of the rest.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
think I’ve always been someone who figures things out after I jump, which is probably how I ended up here. Going from healthcare to beauty school was a risk, opening my home to clients when I was just starting out was a risk, and eventually opening The Wax Suite Medford was an even bigger one.
There was never really a moment where I felt completely ready or knew for sure it was going to work. I just knew I wanted something different for my life, and at some point I had to trust myself enough to go after it.
I still get scared making big decisions. I still overthink things and wonder if I’m making the right choice. I think risk, for me, is just being willing to do something scared. So far, the scariest decisions have also been the ones that have changed my life the most.
