Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Abdenour.
Hi Ashley, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I got into nutrition and fitness coaching after having a transformation myself, not only of my body, but of how I lived my day to day life. It was such a pivotal moment in my life and knew I wanted to help others walk through the same for themselves. For years I worked within other organizations, until around the time I had my son. I noticed two things, one I wanted more control over my schedule and how I spent my time, and two I wanted to do things better and differently than I could do under someone else’s business. Thus, Thrive and Transform Coaching was born. A nutrition coaching company centered around creating behavior change that cares about client results, but cares even more about the individual. Now I get to spend time with my kid while also helping women build the confidence they’ve always been looking for.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I don’t think the road to building any business is necessarily smooth. It’s hard learning how to build out the work you want to be doing and finding the people it will serve. I have learned A LOT through building this business: how to build a website, how to connect with local businesses, how to talk publicly about my business (the first time I did an in person speaking event I BOMBED, truly it was embarrassing), and how to put on a confident face through it all even if I wasn’t feeling that. It’s nerve-wracking to create something, toss it out there, and wait to see if it floats or sinks. I’m still learning and stumbling, and think I always will be. Right now, the most challenging aspect is marketing in a way that feels authentic rather than manipulative. But we’re figuring it out!
As you know, we’re big fans of Thrive and Transform Coaching. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are a nutrition coaching company with a specialty in behavior change. We know that these journeys require a lot more than “eat less and move more”. We help people figure out what fits into their specific lifestyle and create changes that they can stick to for the long term rather than just running some challenge for a few weeks. We’ve also created a community where all clients can connect with one another and host live calls because we know how important connection is in the change process. Thrive and Transform Coaching is committed to changing the standards for health coaching, we’re doing it differently because we believe the bar has simply been set too low. People deserve better.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I will read anything by Ryan Holiday, his favorite of mine being Obstacle is the Way. I also read his Daily Stoic and Daily Dad each morning. Two books that have heavily influenced my coaching are: Changing to Thrive by James and Janice Prochaska and The Kindness Method by Shahroo Izadi.
I also do a ton of reading for fun. I read everything from fantasy to historical fiction and even thrillers. I love getting lost in a good story.
