Today we’d like to introduce you to Maher Makboul.
Hi Maher, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Came to America in 1985 when I was nine years old . My family has been in the restaurant business since the 1970s starting out in New York and then we moved out to Oregon. We have been our current location since 1987 over by the Psu campus on 6th And College. It’s been everything from a restaurant to a deli and for the past 15 years as convenient store we converted the parking lot into a Food Cart Pod. Where are we now have 11 Foodcarts with a full bar for the past two years. A lot of challenges throughout the years, but we’re still here thank God looking forward to the future!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nothing is easy. It’s always an up-and-down road but we gotta stay even keal you know we’ve been through the recession the financial crash in 06 -07 of course Covid and now this downturn economy so it’s very rough. It’s not easy to do business like before, but we are trying our best.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We offer a full convenience store with a lot of international flavors from Asian to Middle Eastern to American. We have the largest selection of drinks, beer and wine for a convenience store with over 42 doors of Coolers. That’s one part of the building and on the other side of it like I said before we have developed the parking lot into a Food Cart Pod so we have 11 different Foodcarts with all international flavors from Mexican, Mediterranean ,Vietnamese Thai, Hawaiian and a full bar with indoor covered and heated seating. We do weekly events like comedy night, trivia night, karaoke, and pop-up markets..
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
We strive ourselves on always having fresh product, the latest brands and hottest items that people are looking for, and we try to give that to the customers at the lowest price as possible. We are always looking to improve and we pride ourselves on great customer service and creating a family atmosphere for our employees as well as treating customers like family as well.
