Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosie Rocke.
Hi Rosie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I dealt with acne for a lot of my life, which originally drew me to beauty school to help others with their skin. But the real turning point happened when I moved and had the hardest time finding a great, reliable waxer. (in another city & state) Once I started working at a salon here in Portland, I completely fell in love with waxing which I was surprised by because I always wanted to offer facials. I noticed so many clients came in nervous because movies always make waxing look like a painful nightmare. I made it my mission to change that narrative.
As a first-generation Mexican-American, I take immense pride in my culture’s warmth and hospitality, and I wanted that energy to reflect in my workspace. When I built up the confidence to open my own studio, I infused those exact values into it. What drives me every day is knowing I’ve built a safe, fun, and deeply welcoming environment where clients feel genuinely cared for from the moment they walk through the door.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, not at all a smooth road. The road had its share of mental hurdles. Transitioning to my own studio space brought up a lot of vulnerability and fear about failure and client retention. Having the support of my husband and friends and leaning into my community has changed everything. RosieCheeks thrives today because of my encouraging network of friends and clients right here in Portland who turned my biggest fears into our greatest shared success. I truly believe this is a shared success because none of this would be possible with out them.
As you know, we’re big fans of RosieCheeks. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I provide full-body waxing, lash lifts, brow laminations, and lash and brow tinting, but what I am truly known for is making my clients feel entirely comfortable and at ease. I know these treatments can make people feel vulnerable, so I treat every appointment with immense care, especially if you’re a first-time client.
I am forever grateful for the folks who continue to choose me in a city with so many talented estheticians. My business is deeply tied to my personal morals and community care. I am proudest of how inclusive my brand is. Because I believe everybody deserves to feel amazing regardless of income, I am always happy to work with anyone’s budget to keep care accessible. I truly cherish the time I get to spend with my clients, and I want people to know my space is a safe, welcoming haven for every single body.
What are your plans for the future?
Looking ahead, the ultimate dream is to expand our current setup into a full-scale Beauty Collective right here in Portland. I want to build a collaborative, one-stop shop where independent beauty service providers can thrive together under one roof. My close friend and talented partner, GlossPond nails, is already offering incredible nail services in the studio, and our shared future goal is to transition into a larger space that welcomes even more specialized providers. As we grow, my personal mission remains the same: to continuously hone my craft, offer top-tier care, and find meaningful ways to show up for and support our local community.
