Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon Sinclair.
Hi Sharon, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When people ask how I came to do this work, I usually smile because the answer didn’t begin with house clearings. It began with a little girl searching for home.
I was born into a military family, where moving was simply part of life. Before I was old enough to understand why, I was sent to live with my grandparents in Fort Smith, Arkansas. My grandfather adored me, and those early years became my first experience of what home truly felt like—safe, loving, and grounded.
When I was five, my grandfather passed away, and everything changed. I was sent back to live with my parents, two older sisters, and two younger siblings. Overnight, I lost the only home I really knew.
Looking back, I realize I’ve been searching for that feeling ever since.
Because my father remained in the military, we continued moving from place to place. Every house was different. Some felt peaceful the moment you walked through the door. Others never felt comfortable, no matter how beautiful they were.
Even as a child, I noticed those differences.
My mother loved houses. We spent countless hours visiting model homes and imagining the lives that might unfold inside them. She also had a tradition that stayed with me throughout my life. Every time we moved, she sprinkled salt around the moving truck and around the home before we moved in and again when we left. At the time I thought it was simply something my mother did. Years later, I realized she was performing her own quiet ritual of blessing and protection.
Without realizing it, she had planted the first seeds of my life’s work.
By high school, I knew I wanted to study architecture. At the time, girls weren’t allowed to enroll in the architectural drafting program. My mother believed in me enough to keep me home until the school finally agreed to let me become the first young woman admitted to the class.
That experience taught me that sometimes you have to create the path that doesn’t yet exist.
After graduation, I moved to the San Francisco Bay Area with very little money and a dream. For a short time I lived in my car while searching for work. A chance introduction led me to FM Productions, where I started at the very bottom—washing paint buckets in the paint shop.
I couldn’t have imagined where that opportunity would lead.
I eventually moved into the electrical department, where I met my future husband, Larry. Together we began designing stages and creating environments that transported audiences into entirely different worlds. When Larry accepted a position with Disney, we moved to Los Angeles, where I fulfilled another dream by earning my degree in Interior Design from the Hollywood Art Center School.
Those years were about learning how environments influence emotion. Whether designing a stage, a room, or a home, I became fascinated by the way physical spaces shape human experience.
Eventually, life brought us to Oregon, where we found a beautiful home on eight acres surrounded by nature. It was there that another chapter of our lives quietly began.
Our home became a place of learning and community. We hosted sweat lodges, Buddhist studies, Native American teachings, shamanic breathwork, dowsing workshops, and conversations about ancient wisdom traditions. During those years I immersed myself in the study of Feng Shui, sacred geometry, geobiology, energy work, and many other disciplines. I had even been accepted into the Interior Design program at Marylhurst University, but by then my questions had changed.
I no longer wanted to understand how to design beautiful homes.
I wanted to understand why homes affect us so deeply in the first place.
Over the past three decades, that question has guided my work with hundreds of homes and families. What I discovered surprised me.
The greatest influence on a home isn’t always its architecture.
Sometimes it’s the experiences held within its walls.
Sometimes it’s the history of the land beneath it.
And sometimes it’s the invisible relationship between people and the places they call home.
That realization became the foundation of House Cleansings.
Today, Larry and I help homeowners, families, businesses, and real estate professionals restore harmony to homes that feel heavy, unsettled, or simply “off.” Some of our work is done throughout Oregon, while much of it is now conducted remotely for clients across the country.
After all these years, one simple truth continues to guide me:
The house is often a mirror of the self.
When we understand the relationship between people and place, we often discover that healing doesn’t happen only within us—it can also happen within the spaces we call home.
Looking back, I can see that every chapter of my life—the little girl searching for home, the student fighting to study architecture, the stage designer, the interior designer, and the lifelong student of both science and spiritual traditions—was preparing me for the work I do today.
Helping people come home isn’t just my profession.
It’s my life’s purpose. and there is so much more.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but when I look back, I realize that every challenge prepared me for the work I do today.
One of my earliest challenges was growing up searching for a sense of home. Being separated from my grandparents at a young age, then growing up in a military family that moved frequently, left me wondering why some places felt safe and welcoming while others never did. I didn’t know it then, but that search would eventually become the foundation of my life’s work.
As I grew older, I often found myself breaking through barriers. I became the first young woman admitted into my high school’s architectural drafting program. Later, when I entered the entertainment industry, I was the first woman at FM Productions to work outside the sewing department, beginning in the paint shop and eventually moving into the electrical department and stage design. I also became one of the first women in the San Francisco Bay Area accepted into the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) union in Oakland.
Those experiences taught me perseverance and the confidence to step into places where there wasn’t already a path.
Life also brought personal challenges. I experienced profound losses, health struggles, and two near-death experiences that changed how I viewed life and healing. Each one challenged me to grow in ways I never expected.
Perhaps the greatest challenge has been learning to trust my own perceptions. For many years, I questioned what I observed in homes because it didn’t fit neatly into conventional explanations. Rather than accepting or dismissing those experiences, I committed myself to decades of study—architecture, interior design, Feng Shui, dowsing, sacred geometry, geobiology, and other disciplines—to better understand the relationship between people and place.
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that my own healing and personal growth are inseparable from the work I do. Every home, every client, and every challenge has taught me something. They have reminded me to stay humble, remain curious, and continue learning.
Today, I don’t claim to have all the answers. What I do have is more than three decades of experience, a willingness to keep asking questions, and the confidence to trust what years of observation have taught me.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about House Cleansings by Energy Shifters?
House Cleansings was born from our shared belief that homes are more than structures—they are living environments that influence the people who live within them, just as the people influence the places they call home.
Together, Larry and I bring very different life experiences to our work, and that partnership has become one of the things that makes House Cleansings unique.
I’ve always been a seeker—not only of spirituality, but of understanding how things work. Throughout my life I’ve been fascinated by why some places immediately feel welcoming while others don’t, how the land influences the places we build, and how people are connected to the natural world. My journey has taken me through architecture, interior design, theatrical design, Feng Shui, sacred geometry, geobiology, dowsing, and many other disciplines.
One of the most meaningful influences on my work came through the dowsing and druid communities. There I learned to observe the rhythms of nature—to understand how the Earth “breathes,” how water moves beneath the ground, and how the land, the trees, the plants, and the natural world interact with the places where we live. Those experiences taught me to slow down, observe carefully, and recognize that every place has its own history, character, and story. More than thirty years of study, observation, and working with hundreds of homes have evolved into the methodology we use today.
Larry brings an equally important perspective. As an accomplished theatrical and production designer for the live entertainment industry, he spent decades designing environments that shaped how audiences experienced a space. Today, he is often the first person our clients speak with. Larry has an extraordinary ability to listen without judgment, ask thoughtful questions, and help people feel comfortable sharing experiences they may have never told anyone else. Many of our clients tell us that simply being heard is the first step toward healing.
I often describe myself as an Energy Detective, because that’s how I approach every project.

We listen carefully, research the history of the property, study the land, observe environmental influences, and look for patterns that may be affecting the relationship between people and place. We also use assessment tools—including map dowsing, the Lecher Antenna, and other methods we’ve refined through decades of experience. Our goal isn’t to make assumptions—it’s to understand the whole picture before developing a personalized plan.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love that Oregon still has places where you can hear the wind moving through the trees, watch rivers carve their way through the landscape, and feel connected to something much older than ourselves. Living here has deepened my appreciation for the relationship between people and the land, and that connection has profoundly influenced both my life and my work.
If I could change one thing, it would be helping people slow down long enough to reconnect—with nature, with one another, and with the places they call home. I believe there’s a great deal we can learn from the natural world if we’re willing to observe it. That sense of curiosity, wonder, and connection is one of the things I treasure most about living in Oregon.
