Conversations with G. Brian Benson

Today we’d like to introduce you to G. Brian Benson.

Hi G. Brian, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
For many years, I lived a life that looked successful from the outside, running my family’s business, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that something deeper was calling me. I felt like I had a gift that wanted to come out, but I didn’t know at the time what it was. It wasn’t until I had the courage to leave the business in 2008 and step into the unknown that I truly discovered my creative voice. After basically “accidentally” writing my first book while I was working on my own self-growth process, my creative abilities began to unfold one step at a time. I had to overcome a fear of speaking, which lead me to step out of my comfort zone and take community college speech courses, begin Toastmasters, hire a co-host for an internet radio show, create an interactive workshop based on my book as well as take a beginning acting class. I hoped all of these actions would help me gain confidence and become more comfortable in front of others. I became inspired after the acting class and made my first short film and then intuitively moved to Los Angeles to act for 10 years. I just kept following the flow and all of these new discoveries made me feel quite alive. And since then, I continue to write more books, host “The Creative Spark” Podcast, give keynote presentations, create unique videos and connect with others in so many creative ways. I am grateful.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a smooth road, but the right road. Along the journey, life became my greatest teacher. The highs, the heartbreaks, the transitions, surviving cancer, undergoing open-heart surgery, completing Ironman triathlons, and countless quiet moments of reflection all find their way onto my pages. Writing became more than a creative outlet—it became a way to process my experiences, better understand myself, and make sense of this beautifully imperfect journey we all share. Over time, I realized that the stories, poems, and essays I was writing weren’t just for me. They were reminders of hope, authenticity, balance, and self-acceptance that others needed to hear, too. Today, whether I’m writing a book, sharing a poem, standing on a stage, or collaborating with others, my goal is always the same: to offer grounded hope, encouragement and help others recognize that their own story has the power to heal, inspire, and create meaningful change. I have definitely been through a lot, but the insight and growth from my difficulties have made me a better version of myself.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I like to say that I am a multi-creative, and self-realization advocate whose passion is helping others find joy, meaning, and their own unique voice. I love to creatively change lives and remind others of their own light. My brand is all about conscious, thought-provoking media that inspires. I do this through self-improvement books, podcasts, presentations, workshops, a YouTube channel, short films, mentoring, spoken word poetry and rhyming children’s books and cartoons. I love wordplay!

I have had many experiences and lessons to help view life through a unique lens and am called to share what I have learned to help others.

What are your plans for the future?
I plan to continue doing much of the same. While I do have more books coming out this year, and a new podcast about to launch, I am gearing up to speak more. I really enjoy connecting with people in person. I am also making more room in my schedule to mentor others.
