Conversations with Kelly Nicodemus-Miller

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Nicodemus-Miller.

Hi kelly, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Our web site covers quite a bite of what you ask. www.theartfullgardenandcompany.com

We are a women owned and operated business that carries local Artist and other local companies like “The Candy Basket” chocolates” Krelly Designs” highly known for her jewelry and fine are gifts for over 25 years. There are also close to 50 local Artist and makers that make our store unique and memorable! We have been voted for many years as “Best in Hillsboro” ! We thrive to bring young and old talent to our shop and mentor and help them grow which intern inspires us and our community to celebrate that talent right here in our town.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With most businesses we continue to adapt to what is thrown our way. All owners are committed to giving our best to our customers and our consignment group. We personally suffer in order to keep things moving. We are the optimist with a heavy heart. We just celebrated our 25th anniversary and reminisced about making it through the slow growth of our town to wonderful changes that surround us now. Covid shut down, we are still picking up the pieces and today’s spending concerns or keeping us from recovering. But, we continue to keep the faith and hope to keep grow.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m Kelly the main owner of The ARTfull Garden and Company. As well, the owner and creator of “Krelly Designs”. Jewelry and fine art gifts. So technically, I’m a business woman, designer of the store, trainer, creator of one of a kind jewelry pieces, some published in beading magazines through out the years. While living in Australia I began a new addition to my creative spirit….painting. The aboriginal art was quite inspiring. I soon began adding painted pieces to jewelry and gift items. I love creating the most and mentoring our other artists. However without the other partners Sue, Lavonne, and Ann who run the day to day business, the store would have closed long ago. They are who I’m most proud of. We together provide a start for new artists and creators. Mentoring the young and the young of heart how to run a business and encourage them to grow. Also, our community love having a place that is supported by locals. To top of our store we include a chocolate shop that began here in Hillsboro in 1914. We even have some for the original cabinets. The Candy Basket still produce’s some of the best chocolates around. My favorite is the Beaver Paws…also known as Turtles.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
We have realized that in order to stay relevant in our business that we are going to have to build on our technical skills and social media, and sell on line. It’s a world where some of our old timers need some help on. So we are seeking people to share their skills and join this wonderful group so we may keep sharing our knowledge with the ever creative spirits that surround us and keep our HISTORIC HILLSBORO MAIN STEET STORE OPEN🥰
