Today we’d like to introduce you to Bekah Beatty.
Hi Bekah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born and raised in Oregon, and growing up, my family moved around quite a bit. I spent the majority of my childhood in Coos Bay and the surrounding areas.
My love for art started before I can even remember. I was always drawing on the backs of school assignments and finding any opportunity to create. From a young age, I knew I needed art in my life. It became an incredible outlet for me through both the difficult and beautiful moments.
I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have art as my full-time career for the past nine years, whether that’s been through selling paintings or creating tattoos. I still feel incredibly blessed and amazed that people trust me to create permanent art on their bodies. It’s something I never take for granted, and I’m so grateful to be able to make a living doing what I love.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being a full time artist didn’t come without its hardships, I had to work 2 jobs while going to tattoo school. I wasn’t ever “a natural” in a sense. I had to work hard to develop those skills tattooing. I still am committing myself every day to getting better. The beautiful thing about art is you can never be “the best”. There is always something to improve on, and that’s why I love it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an all over creative. I’m a full time tattoo artist, specializing in black and grey realism and fine line work. I’ve owned my own studio for 6 years. I’m also known for realistic oil paintings.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
For new artists interested in painting or tattooing, my biggest piece of advice is to not be afraid to experiment. Create every day, try new things, and don’t let outside influences dictate your path or what you think your art should be.
You need to be willing to work hard, but just as importantly, make sure you maintain your passion. It’s easy to get caught up in numbers, trends, and social media, but social media isn’t everything. At the end of the day, creating meaningful, thoughtful artwork and continuing to grow as an artist is what truly matters.
