Daily Inspiration: Meet Darci Haney

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darci Haney.

Darci , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Carlton is a charming small town in the middle of the Willamette Valley. Nearly 20 years ago we purchased a fixer upper in Carlton and after pouring all of our extra time and money into that sweet old home, we turned it into a vacation rental! There were not any vacation rentals in Carlton at that time, and the wine industry was starting to bring a lot of tourism. We figured if it didn’t work out, we could just sell it!

Well, that one fixer upper turned into two more! Eventually we sold all three, and purchased an old estate on the edge of town called Westerlook Farm. Westerlook Farm is a charming property with three residences; the Main House a Guest House and a Carriage House. We knew as soon as we bought the farm that we wanted to turn the Guest House into a vacation rental, and share this farm with people that would travel near and far!

In addition to our vacation rental, we offer creative work shops and farm fresh/farm raised products.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The first handful of years had challenges, but we have learned a lot and it’s been a fairly smooth road!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My husband and I have a small design/build company. He is the mastermind, and the gifted craftsman, I help put together the colors and materials. We love working together and have been working together for over 20 years! I am most proud of the fact that I genuinely love working with my best friend . We have been able to work on some very fun and beautiful projects, and meet some incredible people from all over the world!

When the farm came up for sale, we knew raising our girls at the farm would be a dream come true! The property itself is so inspiring, and I think any creative person would continually be inspired to live here!

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I am sure the vacation rental industry will continue to change as more and more vacation rentals pop up!
